Power Through Your Day With a Filling Breakfast
By Donna Stark
You're hungry again, aren't you? That fancy coffee and pastry from your favorite morning stop just isn't cutting it, is it? In fact, the more you think about it, the more you start to realize that it hasn't ever really cut it because it's always about this time that you find yourself pulling out your change and heading to the office vending machine, or to your kitchen pantry, or back to that favorite morning stop for round two of caffeine and carbs. There has to be something that keeps you satisfied for more than a couple of hours, right? Well, there is! You just need to change what you are eating.
Consuming the Right Foods
It's important to start your day filling your body with the right kind of foods. Foods that will give you the nutrients your body needs while also keeping you full for longer stretches of time. Here is a quick rundown on several good suggestions. Take a look.
- Greek yogurt - Instead of choosing between that processed pastry sitting in the plastic bin and the blueberry bagel that is loaded with carbs, choose what flavor of Greek yogurt you want to try instead! Greek yogurt is packed with fat-burning protein that keeps you feeling fuller for longer periods of time. You can top it with berries or nut butter for even more nutrition as well!
- Berries - Speaking of berries, if you want to make it from breakfast to lunch without feeling as if you are going to starve to death, try including blueberries and raspberries to your morning meal. Both are well-known for satiety as they are high in dietary fiber, antioxidants, and water. So top off your yogurt with them, eat them alone, or toss them into your morning smoothie.
- Nut butter - Peanut, almond, or cashew butter are great sources of protein and fat that give you the energy and power to make it through to your next meal. Balance their savory flavor with a banana or sweet apple, add a spoonful to your smoothie, or top your favorite yogurt with it.
- Avocado - There's a good reason why you started seeing pictures of avocado toast on everyone's social media posts recently and that's because it's a star when it comes to healthy breakfasts. Avocado is loaded with heart-healthy fats and fiber, and when added to your morning toast, makes a great meal that keeps you feeling full until lunch!
Say No to That Unhealthy Snack
Want to start your morning off right and have your day run as smoothly as it can? Then choose those foods that contain fiber, protein, and heart-healthy fats for breakfast! They will keep you feeling satisfied until your next meal, help to curb those cravings you often have mid-morning, and give your body the nutrients it needs to power through your day!
