By Stepy Kamei
There's no way to turn back the hands of the clock. However, making the smart lifestyle choices needed to sustain and support a healthy body is something we all have the power to do! It shouldn't be a secret that the food you eat plays a huge role in determining how you look and feel. To put it more specifically, the foods you incorporate into your diet can provide anti-aging benefits, inside and out. Read on to learn more about which foods you can count on for noticeable anti-aging effects.
Which Foods Should You Be Looking For?
Generally speaking, foods which are fresh, non-processed, and vibrant tend to be more likely to supply helpful anti-aging properties to your diet. Meanwhile, foods which are highly processed, packaged, and filled with preservatives such as sugar and salt can have very noticeable aging effects on your body and skin, especially when eaten on a regular basis.
Now, on to more specific foods you should add to your grocery list for your next shopping trip!
Red Bell Pepper
This colorful and delicious food gets its bright red hue from a compound known as carotenoids. In addition to infusing vegetables with vivid colors, carotenoids provide the body with loads of anti-inflammatory properties as well! This is great for protecting the skin and preventing damage from the sun and pollution from affecting skin cells.
This veggie is super versatile, too -- sprinkle them on top of salads and flatbread, or mix them into a stir-fry or pasta dish.
Blueberries
These sweet berries are loaded with Vitamins A and C, which help keep the skin strong and supple. Blueberries are also loaded with antioxidants, which can help prevent the loss of collagen by defending the skin against free radical damage.
Blueberries are a perfect sweet snack on their own, or popped into a bowl of whole-fat Greek yogurt!
Dark, Leafy Greens
Greens such as spinach and bok choy are fantastic for the skin. First, they're hydrating, which can help fight the look of aging within the skin. Furthermore, spinach in particular is loaded with anti-aging properties such as Vitamins A,C, E, and K; magnesium; lutein; and even iron!
Be sure to add dark, leafy greens as an extremely healthy side to your favorite meals in order to gain the most anti-aging benefits as you can.
Nuts
Finally, for a nice snack, be sure to always have mixed nuts nearby! A bag of unsalted walnuts, almonds, cashews, and pistachios will fill you up with protein, fiber, and omega-3 fatty acids, which strengthen skin cell membranes
