Meet The Doctors

Dr. Drew Slater began his journey as a local healthcare provider at The Joint Chiropractic in Colorado Springs in 2011, continuing the work he finds so rewarding at the Fort Collins South clinic in 2023.

“Chiropractic has given me the resources to educate people on the possibilities of postural reeducation and simple tools or adjustments to improve the quality of their lives,” he says. “I also enjoy the ability to travel and experience new communities that have been an integral part in my pursuit of knowledge, while being able to give back to a diverse audience.”

Dr. Drew, as his patients call him, was born in England and raised in Michigan. “My pursuit of an athletic career began a journey where I found that the best way to maintain and recover from injuries is chiropractic care.”

He previously worked as a chiropractor in: Birmingham, Michigan; Kirkland, Washington; West Lafayette, Indiana; Estoi, Portugal; Nosara, Costa Rica; as well as Colorado Springs, Boulder, and Fort Collins.

Dr. Drew is married to Beth Slater, DC. “She has been a Joint Chiropractor owner and integral part in both of our educations and careers as chiropractors.”

His passion for coaching has allowed Dr. Drew to coach and mentor their two boys in wrestling and soccer, while advising their daughter during her seasons as a cheerleader.

They have a mixed breed terrier named Stella and a Costa Rican mixed breed named Rojito who bring balance to their family. “I find myself always open to experience new ways to improve the quality of my life with sporting activities and training, but trying to balance with breath work, meditation or cold immersion.”

Dr. Drew studied exercise science at Central Michigan University and earned a Doctorate of Chiropractic at Logan University in Chesterfield, Mo. His areas of greatest interest included kinesiology, or muscle testing for human motion evaluation, and aerial yoga for spinal decompression.

“As an athlete in training, I tried many forms of therapies,” he says. “Chiropractic care had the most powerful tools to aid in my maintenance and injury prevention. I only wish I found it earlier in my career.”

Some of Dr. Drew’s most memorable experiences as a chiropractor occurred while working with the professional soccer team at the Colorado Springs Switchbacks Football Club. “It demonstrated the speed and efficiency with which chiropractic care can be implemented for performance quality, in addition to how this is transferable to everyone.”

In Case You Didn’t Know

Dr. Drew always keeps Lauricidin and moringa root on hand. “They are great go-to hacks to improve immune function.”

If he was planning a dinner party with four famous guests, Dr. Drew would invite John Lennon, Bruce Lee, long-distance runner Steve Prefontaine, and spiritual leader Ram Dass. “They all exhibited qualities that I strive for – determination, work ethic, compassion, empathy, passion, and improving life as you move forward.”

One of the most meaningful experiences of Dr. Drew’s life was training for three years during high school to travel with the United States Marine Corps fitness team. He finished among the top three in the nation. “It presented the challenges I would be facing in my life and the formula to be successful, while the process also involved having fun.”

ChiRunning by Danny Dreyer is one of his favorite books. “The author is not a chiropractor, but the book supports the same mission – how to correct human motion with simple tools.”

Dr. Drew’s best advice includes: “There's always a solution if you take a step back, breathe, and apply it with passion.”

Dr. Scott Heiser joined the team at The Joint Chiropractic in 2010 and finds it gratifying to provide healthcare services at more than one clinic location, including Loveland, Fort Collins, and Fort Collins South.

“I enjoy helping patients experience pain relief and take steps toward wellness with consistent chiropractic care,” he says, “and the reward of being part of the wellness process with patients.”

Dr. Scott, as his patients call him, grew up in northern Illinois where his sports background enabled him to see the effect that chiropractic care had on himself and others around him. He previously worked in DeWitt, Iowa, before moving to Colorado.

Dr. Scott met his wife, Julie, while completing a Doctorate at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. She is a marathon runner and volleyball player. They have one daughter and two sons who are also active and enjoy sports, including baseball and bowling. The family has a golden retriever named Wrigley.

Dr. Scott loves baseball, football, hiking, camping, and spending time in the mountains. He found his calling as a chiropractor when he spent a year suffering from migraines, and after two adjustments they were gone. "The power that made the body heals the body."

One of his most memorable experiences as a chiropractor occurred while practicing in Bolivia and a patient was brought in on a stretcher. “He had previously been advised to stay seated or lie down due to the amount of back pain he was experiencing,” Dr. Scott says. “I checked him two times over two days, and on the third day he walked across the room after not standing or walking for nearly five years.”

In Case You Didn’t Know

Dr. Scott always has salsa in his refrigerator. “The whole family loves salsa.”

If he could host a dinner party and invite four famous guests, he would include Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Babe Ruth, and Barry Sanders. “I would enjoy listening to four people who played and lived at such a high level.”

One of the greatest experiences of Dr. Scott’s life was traveling to Bolivia and working at a hospital there. “It put a lot of things in perspective.”

If he wrote an autobiography, the title would be Go Hard and Then Find Time to Relax.

A helpful life hack he’s received is: "Do what you do as well as you can do it." A favorite piece of advice he likes to offer is: “Don’t waste what is freely given.”

Dr. Natalie Small became part of The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers in 2022, and in 2023 she continued doing the work she finds so fulfilling at the Fort Collins and Fort Collins South clinics.

“The best part of my job is hearing the stories patients relay when they return for subsequent visits,” she says. “Knowing that someone can lift their child again, start working toward fitness goals, or even sleep through the night without pain for the first time in a long time – it’s so rewarding. I love partnering with patients to help them develop strategies that promote their health and goals.”

Dr. Natalie, as her patients call her, was raised in the Pacific Northwest and saw a chiropractor regularly. “This is where I had the opportunity to see the progress patients made in the office and was inspired to help others in this same way.”

Running and hiking are two of Dr. Natalie’s favorite hobbies. She has a golden retriever named Arlo who loves to accompany her on long hikes.

After studying biology at Washington State University, Dr. Natalie transferred to Parker University in Dallas, Texas. There she earned a double Bachelor of Science degree in Anatomy and Health & Wellness and graduated summa cum laude with a Doctorate of Chiropractic.

“I chose to enter this field at the age of 15 when my mom and I were rear-ended and I visited my local chiropractor,” Dr. Natalie says. “It was here that I started to observe the positive changes patients made in his office and began to look into entering the field for myself. After a lot of hours spent shadowing, I decided this was the profession for me.”

One of Dr. Natalie’s favorite experiences as a chiropractor is watching a patient’s perspective transform. “I've discovered that a lot of people place so much focus on their pain and limitations that it blocks their progress,” she says. “When working not only with a patient's physical limitations, but helping them set goals throughout their treatment, their perspective becomes more positive and can often improve their outcomes.”

In Case You Didn’t Know

Dr. Natalie always has chocolate on hand. “Dark chocolate is happiness in solid form.”

If she could invite any famous person to a dinner party, she would invite Elvis Presley to perform.

Dr. Natalie’s proudest athletic achievement was winning a trail marathon in 2021. “It allowed me to test new boundaries and see how much more my body is capable of than the limits I place on it.”

This Voice In My Heart by Gilbert Tuhabonye is one of her favorite books. “It’s an incredible story of finding joy in any circumstance and using your passion to have a positive impact on your community.”

When asked about a meaningful piece of advice she’s received, Dr. Natalie remembers a teacher who told her never to settle for less when you're capable of more. “This recognition of potential excited me to strive for my best and see what I could accomplish, helped me develop a strong work ethic, and it pushed me to become the person I am.”

Her best advice for others involves being mindful of the little things. “Focus on small progress, celebrate the little victories. If you never recognize milestones, you'll never find the motivation to work toward the end goal.”

Dr. Nathan Potter joined The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers in 2024 when he began serving residents in Fort Collins, where he relishes the opportunity to do the work he finds so rewarding.

“The best thing about being a chiropractor is helping people discover their true potential and live their best life,” he says. “I also love being able to observe the body's healing process and the personal growth of our clients with the chiropractic lifestyle.”

Dr. Nate, as his patients call him, previously worked in Marietta, Ga. and Glen Ellyn, Ill. He has lived in seven different U.S. states and two other countries. “Being able to live and travel the world has taught me so much about life, love, health, and healing,” he says.

His wife, Brittnye, is also a wellness chiropractor, highly skilled with pregnancy and pediatric care. When he's not helping clients, Dr. Nate loves taking day hikes and backpacking trips in the Rockies and beyond. He began writing music at age 11 and has played guitar (and some drums) for more than 30 years.

Dr. Nate went to Oklahoma State University and earned a Doctorate of Chiropractic at Life University in Marietta. He has also studied tai chi, yoga and energetic anatomy.

“I knew chiropractic was my calling when I first heard the chiropractic philosophy, how the body can heal itself,” he says. “And I experienced healing as a reality. I had colic and digestive issues as a child and anxiety later in life. They were completely resolved with chiropractic care! I am so grateful I live the chiropractic lifestyle.”

He loves working with patients in Northern Colorado and seeing Horsetooth Rock from The Joint’s office in South Fort Collins.

In Case You Didn’t Know

Dr. Nate always has kombucha and kava on hand “because it's always a party!” he says.

If he could plan the ideal dinner party including four famous guests, Dr. Nate would invite naturalist John Muir, late musician Jimi Hendrix, Chinese philosopher Lao-Tzu, and the legendary Ella Fitzgerald.

Most of the big moments in Dr. Nate’s life occurred outdoors. “I've been blessed enough to go skydiving, travel much of the world, cross a glacier, hang out with black bears bathing in the high mountain lakes, and spend months camping in the great outdoors,” he says.

One of his favorite books is Eastern Body, Western Mind by Anodea Judith.

If he could offer advice to others, he would say: “Begin the Wellness Lifestyle NOW. It will add years to your life and life to your years.”
