Meet The Doctors

Dr. Jason Phillips, D.C. is a Chiropractor at Uptown

Dr. Jason Phillips joined The Joint Chiropractic in 2023 when he became part of the team at the Uptown clinic, where he does the rewarding work of helping people as their local healthcare provider.

“I can help my patients improve their health and reduce pain with a natural approach,” he says. Chiropractic is beautiful because we get to the cause of the problem and don't simply try to cover up the symptoms. We remove interference in the nervous system and allow the body to heal, just as it is made to. I enjoy the regular interactions with my patients and the relationships that we develop over months and years with them and their families. I love finding a problem in a patient's spine and making a correction before they feel the pain.”

Dr. Jason, as his patients call him, grew up north of Boston. “I love fresh seafood and root for Boston sports teams.”

He previously worked in several Minnesota towns, including New Hope, Plymouth, Minnetonka, Woodbury, Roseville, and Hopkins.

His wife, Dr. Betsy Phillips, is a dentist at Tonka Smiles in Minnetonka. She grew up in Plymouth, Minn. and the couple met in college. They have a son and daughter “Our son is an excellent downhill skier and it is all I can do to keep him in sight when we ski together,” Dr. Jason says. “Our daughter has a beautiful singing voice and plays softball, which I attend whenever possible.” Their Gordon setter, “Tessie,” is named for the Green Monster at Fenway Park.

Dr. Jason enjoys boating on Lake Minnetonka and other outdoor activities such as hiking. “I recently climbed Camelback Mountain in Arizona and completed a 10-day backpacking trip in New Mexico a few years ago,” he says. “I enjoy downhill skiing for the freedom and speed.”

After earning a bachelor’s degree in biology at Colby College in Waterville, Maine, Dr. Jason earned a Doctorate in Chiropractic at Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington, Minn.

“I always had an interest in the human body and first aid,” he says. “I took an EMT course in college where I enjoyed learning about human anatomy, and I discussed it with my chiropractor. One day she said, ‘You're too interested in this to not look into it as a career.’ It hit me like a ton of bricks because I knew she was right.”

Dr. Jason loves when his patients spread the word about his practice. “I always appreciate it when patients refer their children, family, friends, and co-workers to me,” he says. “It is the highest compliment I can receive.”

In Case You Didn’t Know

Dr. Jason always makes sure to have ice cream on hand. “Top notch stuff too, preferably Ben and Jerry's.”

If he could design the perfect dinner party, including four famous guests, Dr. Jason would invite:

BJ Palmer - “He was the son of the founder of chiropractic and was an extraordinary character.”

Teddy Roosevelt - “I admire the gusto with which he lived life, and I would like to feel the energy of his presence.”

Ernest Shackleton - “I could learn much about leadership from him.”

Dennis Conner - “He is the captain who won back the America's Cup for the United States. Sailors are always full of good stories.”

One of the coolest experiences of Dr. Jason’s life was a 50-mile walk he completed in less than 20 hours. “It actually stems from a challenge that Teddy Roosevelt put before the U.S. armed forces in the 1800s,” he says. “It taught me that I could accomplish something significant by relying on grit and experience. It was a daunting challenge that, at the outset, I did not know if I could accomplish, but I didn't let the fear of failure stop me.”

Hawaii by James Michener is one of Dr. Phillips’ favorite books. “It is a wonderful story that follows generations of families through the history of the Hawaiian Islands.”

Dr. Phillips likes to share a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson: "Nothing is at last sacred but the integrity of your own mind.”
