How to Achieve a Healthy Weight without Dieting

By Sara Butler

Many people think that to achieve a healthy weight or maintain it, they have to go on a diet. That’s the wrong approach. Dieting may show results initially, but if you don’t commit to changes to your lifestyle in order to be healthier, then those changes will be short-lived. If you want to be successful and reach a healthy weight, then you need to forget diets and look at small ways you can be healthier each day. Here are a few suggestions to help get you started!

Dedicate Time to Meals

Life is busy and so many people eat when they’re on the go. This is an unhealthy habit that needs to be remedied. Before you make any decisions about what it is you’re going to eat, you must first provide the opportunity for a healthy meal.

When you set aside time in your schedule to eat, then you’re less likely to do any late-night snacking or binging. That’s because your body becomes used to a schedule when you make time to eat and you’ll find that eating outside of scheduled times just isn’t appealing after a time. Once you find a schedule that works for you, then you can begin to focus on what it is you’re eating.

It’s OK to Love Your Food

Most people envision healthy eating as never having another piece of cake again, but that’s simply not a realistic way to live life. Depriving yourself of the things you love isn’t a great strategy for healthy eating. In fact, if you want to be successful at being healthy and staying at a healthy weight, then you need to love the food you eat.

No one is trying to say that cake should make up a significant portion of your meals, but the foods you love to eat should have a place in your meal planning for the simple fact that they make you happy. It’s really all about portion control. Have small portions of the things you love in combination with a healthy diet overall and you’ll be on the road to a happier and healthier lifestyle.

Have a Food Bucket List

You should commit to trying a new recipe at least once a week. Experiment with a new recipe that has something in it you may have never tried before. While you’re at it, create a vegetable and fruit bucket list you can work into your meals in which you try a new fruit or vegetable you’ve never tried before.

Change your habits and you can change your life and your health!
