Not Taking Anything for Granted this Memorial Day
By Sara Butler
There’s a lot going on in the world right now, ranging from the truly strange to the massively heartbreaking. After that terrible tragedy in Manchester, I have begun to think about how precious my health and the health of my family actually is. As I write this, I have a sick child sleeping in the other room after a rough night in which she regurgitated food I assume she ate sometime in 2014. But it’s all about perspective, right? Because I am lucky enough to have a child here who needs my care, not a child that tragically died at the whim of a madman.
On Memorial Day weekend, as we honor the fallen soldiers of this country who gave everything they had for the rest of us -- and think about how truly lucky we are to be alive -- I propose we take a silent moment to give thanks for them, and then a moment to give thanks for our health. And the first step to doing that is to take control of it with the help of chiropractic care.
A More Efficient Immune System
The central nervous system is where all the magic happens. It controls every single aspect of the way a body works -- including the immune system. As spinal health is improved through chiropractic care, so too is the function of the immune system. That means when you’re exposed to things that can make you sick (such as a stomach virus), the immune system will work more efficiently to fight against invaders and keep you healthy. Chiropractic care isn’t a guarantee that you’ll never be sick again, but people who receive regular chiropractic care often report less illness and increased feelings of wellness.
A Higher Level of Activity
Memorial Day kicks off summer. That means more time spent outside participating in sports, seeing concerts, or spending time with your family and friends at a barbecue. The more mobile and active you are, the easier it is for your body to stay healthy. Being active also helps to keep aches and pains at bay, which encourages you to be even more athletically inclined. Chiropractic care can treat any joint dysfunctions or restrictions you may be suffering from, allowing you to move more freely and be more flexible while also reducing your chance for injury. So, when you’re out on the lake waterskiing this summer, embracing life, being happy and pain free -- be sure to thank your regular chiropractic care that is helping you to achieve that!
Enrich Wellness
Chiropractic brings all of its benefits together in one very important way: It helps enrich overall wellness. That’s because having a body free from joint restrictions and dysfunctions allows your whole body to communicate better, restoring optimum health and wellness.
This is why chiropractors don’t treat only those who are experiencing some type of pain or discomfort, but those who also have no symptoms and simply want to maintain their peak health and well-being.
Life isn’t perfect. There are going to be times when we’re sick or not feeling our best -- but at least we’re all here to experience it, both the good and the bad. There are so many people who sacrificed their lives so that we can live ours. So this Memorial Day, remember those who can’t be here and honor them by taking care of your health and proactively protecting it with chiropractic care. Don’t take it for granted.
