Beat the Bloat With These Power Foods - 2nd Week

By Genevieve Cunninghm

This is just not the time of year to feel big and bloated. The weather is getting hotter, the sun is getting brighter, and the clothes are getting smaller. It’s the worst time of year to feel like you’re bursting at the seams. Of course, sometimes it seems as though no matter what we do, bloat just finds us and grabs on with all its might. If this is you, take heart in the fact that a few changes in your diet may help you beat the bloat once and for all. Take a look at these three easy additions to your regular menu that can help you stay slim, feel thin, and keep bloat far away.

Start Your Day With Lemon Water

Lemon, when added to a glass of warm water, is a natural diuretic and gentle laxative. It will help move your digestive tract as well as flush out toxins from your kidneys. Some believe that when you’re feeling bloated, you should avoid water, but by drinking more, you’re letting your body know that you’re hydrated enough to release some of that storage. If warm lemon water doesn’t sound appetizing, try pairing it (or replacing it) with your morning coffee. You’re much more open to a warm drink in the morning, and some even claim it brings energy to get your day started off right.

Snack on Celery and Cucumber

Chances are good that you’ll need a healthy snack during the day. Why not choose one that also eliminates bloat? Chop up some celery and slice up a cucumber, and snack on these choices throughout your day. Both of these veggies are over 90 percent water, so you’re keeping your body incredibly hydrated, which helps to eliminate water retention.

Add a Leafy Green Salad to Dinner

Leafy greens, such as kale or spinach or lettuce, not only contain massive amounts of healthy nutrients, but they also contain fiber. This helps stimulate digestion and ease water retention. As wonderful bonuses, you’ll also get high doses of Vitamins C, A, K, and E. And, of course, this food is super low calorie, so you can eat to your heart’s delight basically guilt-free.

Easing the bloat in the summer is not only desirable, but almost necessary in order to look and feel your best. Don’t let stubborn bloat get in the way of all the summer fun. Use these foods to banish bloat all summer long.
