If you’re unsure where to start to make over your refrigerator and pantry, here are a few tips to help you get started.

Unhealthy Non-Perishables

You need to part with these things, pronto. You may be sabotaging your promise to yourself to eat better before you’ve even begun by keeping unhealthy foods in your pantry. Go through your cabinets and toss out anything that has artificial food colorings and preservatives, are high in sugar or sodium, or have a list of ingredients so long they make your eyes cross. Be tough with yourself and get rid of anything that isn’t healthy or you know you and your family won’t use.

  • Olive, walnut, or coconut oil
  • Whole grains such as oatmeal, quinoa, and brown rice
  • Canned (but low sodium) goods such as tuna, broth, olives, tomatoes, and vinegar
  • Dried beans
  • Local honey
  • Sea salt
