Why You Should Love Breakfast

By Sara Butler

Many people aren’t in the habit of eating breakfast, but it’s not referred as the most important meal of the day for no reason. You probably know why you should eat breakfast, but knowing why and actually doing it are two different things. If you want to attain good health, then breakfast is very important – for many reasons you may not be aware of. Here’s what you need to know about breakfast so you can go forward and make it a priority in your life.

Why It’s Important

When it’s time to eat breakfast, you probably haven’t eaten in 12 hours or more. That means your body is in fasting modes and eating literally breaks the fast. This gets your metabolism running for the day which is why it’s so important. Even if you’re not normally hungry in the morning, then you need to try to eat something small but nutritious. After a couple of weeks, your appetite will reset and you’ll naturally crave to eat in the morning.

Plus, breakfast is the perfect way to get a head start on all those vegetables and fruits you need per day to stay healthy. Bananas, apples, oranges, avocados, or a veggie omelet make a perfect way to start the day.

Eating breakfast will also help you to boost your energy and improve your ability to concentrate.

Other Benefits

Still not convinced that breakfast is important? Well, here are a few more reasons to work to incorporate it into your day:

  • It boosts memory - Eating breakfast each morning improves your ability to learn and memorize things.
  • It boosts performance and mood – A lot of people don’t like mornings, but breakfast can help boost your mood and make you into a morning person. Plus, it will help you to perform better at tasks throughout the day.
  • It boosts nutrition – People who eat breakfast are more likely to eat more nutrients per day than those who don’t. Eating in the morning also helps to increase specific nutrients such as Vitamin B, iron, calcium, fiber, and zinc.
  • It boosts heart health – You’re more prone to clots in the morning but eating breakfast can help to keep your blood flowing smoothly and reduces your risk of clots.

You don’t have to cook an elaborate meal in order to get the benefits of breakfast. Eating something fast and easy is just as good as anything else. Consider scrambled eggs, whole wheat toast, or a tortilla with avocado. Just remember to try to make breakfast a part of your day – for your health!
