Tips for Fixing Foot Pain

Many people assume that chiropractors only deal with issues related to the spine, but the truth is that chiropractors are interested in your body as a whole. They want to ensure that every part is working together as it should so you can live up to your full health and wellness potential.

Plantar Fasciitis

Have you ever experienced foot pain when you take that first step out of bed in the morning? What about after a long day on your feet? There are many triggers, but a condition called plantar fasciitis could be to blame. This condition occurs when the ligament that runs between your toes and heel becomes inflamed -- and it's a real pain in the, well, foot.

Often, this type of injury is a repetitive strain injury. If you spend a lot of time on your feet for work or exercise, wear shoes that aren't supportive enough, or have recently gained weight, then you may find plantar fasciitis rearing its ugly head.

What Can You Do?

If you're suffering from pain in your foot caused by plantar fasciitis, then you should speak with the chiropractors at The Joint. They can assess what's going on and then recommend some stretches that can naturally treat the foot pain you're experiencing.

Some of the most common treatments include:

  • Calf stretches - If you have tight muscles in your calves, then it can make the pain in your foot more pronounced. Loosen up your calves by stretching them with a wall stretch where you place your hands against a wall and stretch the foot that is bothering you out behind you. Keep the knee bent of your unaffected foot and lean forward until you feel a stretch in your calf. Hold for 10 seconds, but if it's too painful, stop!
  • Foot flexes - Sit down for this exercise and place your legs in front of you. Use a large towel or exercise band to wrap around your foot so you can gently pull it toward you, stretching the bottom of the foot. Hold for a few seconds on each side.
