Reboot Your Life the Healthy Way
By Donna Kostiew
The major holiday season of the year is over and I completely expected things to die down by now, but they haven’t. I am back to being as busy as ever … and it isn’t the “slow” kind of busy that we all so enjoy. It’s the kind of busy that includes a flooded inbox, sports practices, packed lunches and evening dinners (why do they like to eat so much?), schoolwork, regular work, housework, daily exercise, surprise shopping trips for forgotten items, and social events for the kids.
And that is just Sunday through Tuesday. No wonder we are all so tired.
Staying Busy with Good Health
Since the new year has been rebooted, why not do the same for your health? Here are some tips on how to reboot your life for better health, energy, and peace.
- Increase your water consumption - Many of us are still not getting near the recommended amounts of water each day, even though we all know the importance of it. So try to develop a habit to keep a water bottle with you at all times and make it your first choice when reaching for a beverage.
- Get moving – You just have to do it. Find some comfy shoes and walk. Then walk some more. Add it to your day wherever you can. Take the stairs, park farther away from the door … the options are endless. Or, you can join a fitness class or purchase a membership to the gym. There really isn’t any wrong choice as long as you are moving.
- Timeout for yourself – Prioritize self-care by enjoying what makes you feel good or what makes your day a little bit nicer. Sit with that cup of tea, schedule a massage, or spend some time with your loved ones. Do what heals, calms, and soothes your moods. Give yourself a little piece of happiness throughout the week and feel the stress and demands quickly slip away.
- Don’t forget your nutrition - It happens to the best of us when life gets busy … we forget what good nutrition tastes like. This can seem hard to fit into our schedules, but with some planning and a little bit of time, you can truly enjoy some nutritious, home-cooked meals. Speaking of time, think about how much you “waste” each week in line at the fast food restaurants you go to. Instead of using that time trying to decide if you want to super-size your meal, you could condense it all to one day and use it more wisely. You could prep some veggies for the week’s meals, prepare some ready-to-go salads for lunches, or make some healthy snacks to carry with you to work.
Rebooting your life can work wonders with how you approach the days and weeks ahead of you. The changes you implement don’t even have to be big to be life-altering. They just need to be made.
