Are You Guilty of These Daily Bad Habits?
Your chiropractor wants your overall health to be excellent, but they can only take you so far with adjustments and nutritional counseling. You have to be willing to look at your lifestyle and habits and make changes to improve your overall health too. Here are a few bad daily habits that you might be guilty of and how you can fix them!
Sitting
It’s been found that even if you exercise, if you are sitting for long periods of time in a desk or in a car then it could be upping your chances of developing health problems. You can easily fix this by creating new health habits for yourself like taking regular breaks at work to get up and walk around. You could even go as far as to create a standing work station for yourself. At home you should not just veg out in front of the TV all evening. After dinner, go for a walk around your neighborhood, clean or go to the gym.
Meat and Cheese
Another bad daily habit is getting too much of a good thing: meat and cheese. Animal proteins are good for you, in moderation. But, a study has found that the growth hormones present in meat can promote the growth of cancer cells. In fact, if you eat a diet high in animal proteins you may be up to four times more likely to develop cancer than people on low protein diets.
Creating a new habit to fix this is fairly easy. Just start of by replacing some of your animal proteins with vegetable proteins like beans. You should be getting 0.8 grams of protein for every 2 pounds of body weight every day, so branch out on what you’re eating and include some vegetable sources!
Cooking with Gas
Some people really prefer gas to electric cooktops, but by cooking a meal with gas you are adding carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide and formaldehyde to the air in your home when you cook a meal. So, when cooking at home with natural gas just make sure you are using your vent hood and are cooking in a properly ventilated space!
Sleep
If you are not getting enough sleep then you could really be hurting your health! Sleep deprivation has been linked to high blood pressure, strokes, obesity and various other health issues. Some studies have even found that if you’re not getting the 6 to 7 hours that you should be getting then you are hurting your health as much as if you were a smoker.
Being tired isn’t normal, so takes steps to try and get enough sleep at night. Form a routine and talk to your chiropractor if you’re having pain or discomfort that is making sleep difficult for you at night.
