Smart Moves To Side Step Weight Gain
Most of us have been there. We are down ten pounds and we just cannot stop smiling. But then the static starts, as friends, foes and family show up and seem to be determined to undermine success.
Before you know it, the scale starts creeping up and morale begins to weaken. Before you lose your cool or gain back a single pound, arm yourself with some good defenses.
Great Ways To Sidestep Trouble
When one of your co-workers shows up balancing a big box of crème filled doughnuts, move out of range and whip out your favorite Greek yogurt laced with dark chocolate and almonds, or dried apricots edged in dark chocolate. Either way, low calorie sweet treats could keep you out of the coffee room and away from a big helping of calories. You can also keep walnuts, almonds or dried cranberries on hand for emergency rescues.
Watch out for friends who love to dine out.
They are not looking for a healthy veggie dinner at your favorite Thai restaurant, which could be low calorie and delicious. Oh no, the friends that call all want to head out for ribs, gourmet pizzas or steaks with fries. To fight back, nibble before you go, avoid sitting next to known heavy eaters, and keep reminding yourself how marvelous being skinny will feel. You can also split a dinner with someone, or ask for part of your meal to be boxed to go.
Find ways to live with kids who munch all day and spouses who adore midnight snacks.
Try to do a lot of independent shopping, loading up on yogurt, fruit, nuts and fresh veggies. Keep popcorn, fresh salsa with veggie chips and low fat cheeses and water crackers on hand, along with bottled waters and unsweetened teas. Also, keep low fat milk and cocoa powder for hot chocolate.
Keep Moving & Don’t Look Back
As time scoots ahead and you manage to hang onto the weight loss and even drop more pounds, don’t let your guard down.
Watch out for business trips and company lunches. Salads, soups and high fiber dishes can help. Also beware of visiting relatives arriving with cookies, candy or cakes. Freezing sugary gifts will get them out of sight and avoid calorie overloads.
Through it all, up your workout a bit. Continue to look for new low calorie recipes that work for you, and reward your efforts with new shoes, totes or workout gear. The better your weight loss plan works the more incentive you will feel.
