Can You Swim Your Way to a Better Back?

By Genevieve Cunningham

Suffering from a bad back is a common theme among adults all across America. Whether it’s due to natural aging, illness or injury, work-related causes, or something else, it’s highly likely that almost every person will experience discomfort in their backs at one time or another. So what are we supposed to do? Accept the inevitable and bite the bullet when it’s our turn to feel the pain? Luckily, there are a couple of excellent things you can add to your life that may be beneficial in both the treatment and prevention of back pain.

Step One: Get Some Water Time

Water can be an excellent way to relieve pressure off your body. How does this work? Think about the way that your body feels under water. It likely feels almost weightless. This is because of the body’s buoyancy in water. This buoyancy is why you feel weightless, and it’s also why pain and pressure are temporarily alleviated. Your joints will bend farther, your muscles will stretch longer, and you’ll be able to enjoy some movement and exercise with less pain. And the more you get to exercise, the stronger and more flexible your body becomes, which then means you’ll have a higher likelihood of fighting off pain even when you’re on dry land. So what can you do in the water? Take your pick! Swim some laps, join a water aerobics class, do some water walking, or change it up a little every day. Just find a nearby pool and rake in those healthy benefits.

Step Two: Don’t Ignore the Chiropractic Clinic

Far too many people skip chiropractic care, usually because it’s not well-known to them or because it’s more of an afterthought. But chiropractic care is great both before the pain starts and after the pain has been present for a while. Chiropractors are spinal experts, so they are pros at finding problem spots known as subluxations, and then correcting these spots using spinal manipulation. This can reduce (and even eliminate) pain, improve your flexibility, reduce occurrences of headaches, boost your energy and immune system, and bring about a number of other positive side effects to your health and wellness. If you’re truly looking for a way to keep your health in check while also managing your pain, adding chiropractic care to your normal health routine should be at the top of your list.

To find a local pool, you may need to check out the local fitness centers in your area. To get quality chiropractic care, you’ll need to get down to The Joint Chiropractic. Why The Joint? Because chiropractors at The Joint truly care about your health and well-being. They are friendly, professional, and eager to help you feel your best. To make getting care easy and stress-free, they offer walk-in visits (no appointments!) and an affordable pricing plan (no insurance!). A healthy exercise routine and regular chiropractic care can go a long way toward your health. Protect your long-term wellness with a dip in the pool and a trip to The Joint as soon as today.
