Chiropractic Care Options for Hip Pain

As we get older, our joints and muscles do not move as fluid and effortlessly as they did when we were young. With our bodies losing the effortless agility, it may be hard to stay active and moving when we have constant pain in various parts of our body. It is important to be aware of possible preventative measures that may be taken to help our joints, as well as types of treatments available.

Read more to find out just what the root cause of common hip pain is , the symptoms and possible treatment and options.

Basics about the hip joint

Our hip joint is important for most of our daily movements. It is the largest ball and socket joint in the body and the cartilage inside of the socket helps absorb any friction caused by motion.

What causes hip pain?

When it comes to the cause of hip pain, there may be one or many reasons why someone may experience problems and pain in that joint area.

Some common reasons include:

  • An accident that may have broken or shattered the hip bone
  • Overuse of the muscles and tendons surrounding the bone
  • Age (the natural wear and tear of the cartilage over the years)

Where may you feel pain and discomfort?

Although it may seem pretty self explanatory in terms of where you may feel pain (hint: your hip), remember that there are other surrounding areas that may signal that you have a hip problem.

These surrounding areas include:

  • Thigh
  • Groin
  • Buttocks
  • Inside or outside of the hip joint

The symptoms of hip joint pain may vary from person to person and also depending on the type of injury that you have endured.

Some common hip joint symptoms include:

  • Stiffness in the joint
  • Lack in range of movement
  • Pain when placing weight on one side of joint

Chiropractic Treatment

While there are a variety of options for treating hip problems, such as over-the-counter medications, non-impact exercises (such as swimming) and low-impact exercises (such as stretching), there is another alternative option that includes chiropractic care.

The initial chiropractic care appointment will involve being examined, as well as talking about any previous injuries, family history and current pain and discomfort (and where you feel it the most). Upon the examination, the chiropractor will determine the best form of treatment for your pain. These treatment options may include: exercise therapy, chiropractic adjustments, strengthening surrounding weakened muscles (with stretching) and massaging.
