Superfoods Can Change Your Life
By Rebecca Waldron
Imagine having foods, not drugs, that lead to lowering cholesterol, risks of cardiovascular disease, and can put you in better moods. Wouldn’t you want to have a never-ending supply of these amazing foods? Of course you would. Nutritionist Elizabeth Somer says that even a few tweaks here and there in your diet can significantly lower your risks by 50 to 75 percent. These are incredible reductions. That’s why these foods are called “super.”
Spinach
Use some leafy baby spinach in your salad the next time you have one or put spinach in your pasta dishes such as lasagna. I like to make a dish of seared salmon over a bed of baby spinach. All the juicy flavor drizzles down onto the spinach and it is scrumptious.
Blueberries
You can easily eat a serving of these sweet berries on their own or in yogurt. Put blueberries, strawberries, a banana, and a handful of baby spinach in a blender with two cups of water and blend until smooth. You won’t believe how good it tastes and you’ve just gotten a super dose of super foods!
Oats
Just like your mother wanted you to eat oatmeal when you were young, you should continue eating oats when you’re grown. Try making overnight oats for a great breakfast. Stir equal parts of milk or water with raw oats in a container and let them sit in the fridge overnight. The next morning, add blueberries and yogurt to the top and enjoy!
Tomatoes
Raw tomatoes have the most nutrition, so try to incorporate fresh tomatoes into your diet. Make them toppings, mashed in dips, or sliced with sandwiches. Tomatoes can be green, yellow or red or a combination thereof. They are high in Vitamin C and easily added into most dishes.
Salmon
Salmon is the best fish you could eat. Bake it, pan fry it, grill it. You can easily make a beautiful main dish from salmon fillets. Add it to a fresh spinach and tomato salad for a real boost in nutrients. Eat salmon once a week for the best benefits.
Superfoods are natural, disease fighting foods that will help you become healthier if you add them into your diet. Take a proactive, positive approach to your health and introduce these foods into your daily and weekly diet. If you do, you will be pleasantly surprised. Not only are these foods packed with nutrients, but they are low fat and low calorie. They will help you take a couple inches off of your waistline. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain with superfoods.
