Staying Healthy During Finals Week

By Donna Stark

Spring Break is right around the corner and if you are a college student, you know that it can be one of the most stressful weeks of the year. But now is not the time to panic. Your local chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic are determined to get you through it. They realize how important it is to get those good grades and to pass all of your tests, but they also want you to stay calm, organized, and healthy during the process. So take a breath, take the time to study, but more importantly, take care of yourself with the following tips!

Staying Healthy During Finals Week

The chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic know how busy finals week can be and how difficult it is to juggle everything on your plate, so they came up with the perfect recipe for success that in addition to finals week, can also be followed the rest of the school year too! Take a look at a few of their most favorite wellness tips below.

  • Sleep - Although it is usually a low priority at college, it is vital that you stay well-rested and get the recommended amount of sleep each night, especially during finals week. Sleep helps the body stay balanced, reduces illness, and improves concentration and focus. So, try to stop studying at least 30 minutes before bed, find something relaxing to do until you are ready to sleep, and make sure your room is conducive to quality rest.
  • Nutrition - It may be hard to eat healthily during finals due to the extra study sessions, late nights, and schedule changes, but it is important that you continue to focus on good nutrition. If you know you are going to have a full week, prep your meals and snacks before all of the craziness starts. Also, avoid caffeine and sweets in the evening. They can easily wreck your sleep schedule!
  • Hydration - You know that drinking the recommended amount of water is important for your physical health, but did you also know that it can improve the health of your brain too? Drinking water can improve cognitive function, increase energy, and reduce the risk of headaches, so keep enough of it by your side throughout your day.
  • Movement - Get up and move during those long study sessions. Most experts will recommend that for each hour of study, you work for 50 minutes and then incorporate some physical activity for the remaining 10. It's also important to maintain your normal (or a modified) fitness routine throughout the week too!

Balancing it All

Learning to balance your time is a tricky art and can be especially so during certain weeks of school, but you are not alone! The chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic are here to help so come on in for a visit! There's no better way to relax!
