Electronic Health Records for Documentation Efficiency
Managing any medical facility can be quite the headache, but the administration and management process involved in a chiropractic care clinic can potentially be the most stressful out of any facility. Chiropractic care is relatively new in terms of the insurance landscape and the perspective that insurance companies have on chiropractic care, so the operations may sometimes be a little difficult to deal with respect to financial status. But even past financial status, it can be difficult to navigate through the process of getting patients in an out the door effectively, scheduling appointments, and even ensuring a level of quality of care for a chiropractic clinic.
A main reason why chiropractic care clinics struggle to establish efficiency productivity, and financial stability is that the clinic’s documentation practices make operations and management quite convoluted. Many practices are faced with documentation in the form of tangible files on paper. With filing cabinets bursting and the seams and practice administrators drowning in a sea of paperwork, there are many opportunities for things to go wrong. Papers can get lost, files can be placed in the wrong locations, and many other things can happen that can create significant problems for the clinic’s operation.
As a way to avoid this headache and stress, many chiropractic care clinics are turning to electronic health records to improve their efficiency and make sure that the documentation process moves as smoothly as possible. Electronic health records is a software or other technological component that can be fitted onto a chiropractic care clinic’s computer system as a way to manage documentation with the use of computers. Rather than having paper files in filing cabinets, electronic health records systems condense all documentation onto the computer. Any file is accessible from any computer within the facility, whether it is in the reception area, in the chiropractor’s examination room, or any other place where files may need to be accessed.
Electronic health records are increasing in popularity as clinics around the nation begin to see just how big of a difference they can make in the clinic’s operation. As more time passes, we can expect to see electronic health records become standard in all medical facilities, not just chiropractic care clinics. In fact, the federal government is offering incentives to clinics that make the switch sooner than later.
