How to Eat Healthy While on Vacation
It is that time of year! The time of long days, warm nights, and well deserved vacations. While vacations are definitely something to look forward to, they can also bring a bit of anxiety for some people. For many, it means a break in their fitness routine. Workouts are interrupted and diets are put on pause for quick and easy meals. Luckily, however, a vacation can be relaxing for your body, mind, and even your fitness goals. You don’t have to give up your progress in order to take some time off. Instead, check out these tips for maintaining your health and fitness during your vacation time this summer.
Use Your Surroundings
Most likely, no matter where you are going, there will be some sort of opportunity to continue working out. If you are staying in a hotel, take advantage of their in-house fitness facility. Camping? Check out the local nature or hiking trail. If you are in the mountains, the incline will be a great challenge. At the beach? A long jog or walk along the beach in the morning might be resting to the mind and soul. No matter where you are, using the surroundings you are given may provide you the opportunity to challenge your body and still enjoy your time off.
Plan Your Meals
If you are on vacation, by all means enjoy the local cuisine. This doesn’t mean, however, that you have to eat all of your meals out. You can very well plan ahead and carry healthy breakfasts, lunches, or snacks. If you plan on eating out every meal, look for healthy salads or lean meat options. Try to avoid fast food as much as possible to keep the calorie count low. Some preparation in the area of meals and snacks can keep you from taking in more calories than you are able to burn.
Drink A Lot of Water
Vacations tend to involve a lot of sodas, and for some, a lot of alcohol. Both of these can mean a lot of calories with zero nutritional value. While it’s ok to enjoy the occasional soda or mixed drink while relaxing, try to keep it to a minimum. Drinking water will also keep you energized, refreshed, and hydrated so that you can keep up with all of the activities and travel that vacations bring.
We all get excited by the prospect of a vacation on the horizon. This summer, enjoy your vacation completely guilt free! Use these tips to keep your health a top priority while still basking in the summer sun for this year’s vacation.
