Cold Symptoms Coming in Strong? Check This Out!

By Genevieve Cunningham

The fall is the time of year when colds run rampant among the masses. We all get runny noses, stuffy heads, and watery eyes. We can usually handle it, but it definitely lowers our quality of life for a while. Unfortunately, there's not a lot we can do to avoid colds. Between the changing weather, the influx of germs, and the increase in activity, sickness is going to happen. But there may be some things we can do to get through them a bit easier. Along with taking medicine, we can take some natural approaches that are sure to make us feel better. If you're ready to manage your colds and feel a little better every day, take a look at these tips.

Eat for Wellness

If you eat the right foods, you can help keep your immune system strong. This might include consuming plenty of Vitamin C (think dark leafy greens), as well as eating seasonal foods such as chicken soup. If you're already sick, try sipping on some chicken broth, or some honey and lemon water to soothe a sore throat. Remember that the foods that you eat play a huge role in the way that you feel. Eat well to feel well this season.

Get Plenty of Rest

Rest helps us heal when we're sick, and if we're not sick yet, it can help keep our bodies strong. Don't skimp on sleep through the fall. Make sure you're getting at least eight hours per night, and take extra naps if necessary. Your body relies on rest more than you realize, so give it what it needs, and you'll feel so much better long-term.

Use Your Resources

Sometimes you need medicine to feel better. Other times, you need a little Vick's vapor rub. Or maybe you need a humidifier in your bedroom while you sleep. Or maybe you need cough drops or peppermints throughout the day. If you need medicine, take it. But otherwise, use the other available resources that you have to keep yourself feeling healthy and strong.

With fall around the corner, the cold symptoms are definitely coming! Use these tips to manage the colds when they hit your home. With a little preparation and some determination, you can keep your whole family feeling well through one of the most fun times of the whole year.
