Add Fish to Your Diet for Good Results

While there are no magic formulas that can improve anyone's health, there are some definite things that can be done to help. Even for those who are somewhat picky eaters, there are enough variety of good foods that may have a significant effect on health. Most people know about some of the foods to avoid and some others to include, but one of those that can have a lot of bang for the buck is fish. For many years, people have recognized the positive things that can come from eating fish on a regular basis. Fish is a good food to add to give more support for a healthy diet.
It Has a High Nutrient Content
Fish are well-known for their abundant amounts of nutrition. They contain iodine, minerals, vitamins, and are particularly high in protein. One of the most valuable vitamins they have is D, which is not generally available in foods except when it is fortified. Another major thing is omega-3 fatty acids. This is generally found in cold water fish. Omega-3's are believed to have plenty of uses. Many people take the oils on a regular basis.
It May Head Off Depression
There seem to be lots of people suffering from depression today. It may be for a variety of reasons, but it is very real. It has been observed that people who eat fish regularly have less depression. It also appears that, for those who take antidepressants, eating fish may increase the effectiveness of those medications. There is some belief that eating fish may help with some other mental problems as well.
It May Help Protect Vision
As we get older, it is not uncommon for our vision to become worse. Many doctors recommend eating fish or taking fish oil to protect it. At my yearly eye exams, I am always reminded of the need to eat fish or take fish oil. Apparently it helps to protect the eyes from macular degeneration. A study of women who ate fish regularly found that they had a 42 percent lower rate of this problem. If you don't really like fish, it could be that you simply haven't tried the right kind or eaten it in the right way. There is enough evidence for its health benefits to find something that can work for you. I always enjoy eating some of it right out a can with a few crackers.
