Need to Reduce Your Stress? Try These Exercises

By Virginia Laird

Stress is nothing to be excited about. It can ruin your day, make it difficult to focus, and deplete your health. It can be managed, but it takes work. Research has long suggested that exercise can help release tension in the body caused by stress. There are many types of group exercise classes and workouts from which to choose. Health and wellness professionals recommend a few workouts which are low-impact and will burn energy and calories at the same time. A few to consider include:

  • Give cycle (spin) class a try
  • Try Swimming
  • Go for a hike
  • Take a yoga class

Give Cycle (Spin) Class a Try

When trying to reduce stress, spending time at the gym can help alleviate some of the tension. While it can seem to add more stress to come up with a workout by yourself, a fitness class can take care of this concern. This will allow you to get lost in the exercise itself. Spin class is one of my favorites. This is a low-impact, high energy class. It is easy to lose yourself in the challenge of pedaling at various speeds and inclines.

Try Swimming

There is nothing better than hitting the pool on a stressful day. Not only can it help take the weight of the world from your shoulders, it literally lightens the load on your feet. Health and wellness experts advise that swimming just a few minutes each day can help relieve stress.

Go for a Hike

Research suggests that getting outside and a dose of fresh air can help to reduce stress as well. The weather this time of year is almost perfect for a long hike while getting lost in the beauty of nature. Be sure when you set out on your hike that you are not in a rush or have many time demands, as this can put more stress on your already stressful situation.

Take a Yoga Class

One of the best ways to rid your life of stress is to take up yoga. Whether it be in a class setting or streaming the workout online, there is nothing like the peace this exercise welcomes. Yoga focuses a great deal on meditation, which can help free the mind. As an added bonus, you will be strengthening your core and toning your muscles while participating in the workout.

Put the stress of the world behind you with a little exercise. If you are concerned to go it alone, invite a friend. Together, you may both find lower stress, which can help you enjoy life every day.
