Natural Ways to Relieve Headaches
By Sara Butler
Headaches are no fun. In fact, they're quite the opposite of a good time. There's not simply one type of headache to deal with, either - there are many different types that have various causes, which adds to the fun of headaches.
But do not despair! There are some natural ways you can get relief from headaches that strike you. Here are a few tips from the chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic to help you deal with your headaches naturally, no drugs required!
Have Some Water
If you develop a headache, then one of the first things you should do is make sure you're hydrated. Headaches can be caused by dehydration and quite frequently are. You should be drinking about half of your body weight in ounces of water per day, so get a water bottle you can take with you and make sure to stay on top of your intake to help thwart headaches before they begin.
Relax
Some headaches are caused by tension, so it's important to do things that help you to relax throughout the day. Some people have success with meditation while other love some simple yoga moves to help stretch and center them. Even working on some deep breathing techniques can make all the difference when it comes to a tension headache, so find a way to relax and make sure it becomes a part of your daily routine.
See the Chiropractor
The chiropractors at The Joint see many patients with headache complaints. Often, joint dysfunctions in the neck and shoulders can lead to headaches. The chiropractor can look for these dysfunctions and target them with hands-on chiropractic adjustments that will help your body to work the way it was made to and hopefully help you find some headache relief along the way.
Massage
Tense muscles can make headaches even worse, so regular massage can help to reduce muscle tension and help keep your headaches under control. Talk to your chiropractor if you're interested in massage to see if they have recommendations for someone who can help. It's a great way to complement your chiropractic care.
Get Enough Sleep
If you're sleep deprived, then it can be a trigger for headaches too. Make sure you're getting about the same amount of sleep each night. You should also make sure that you have the right kind of pillow to help support your neck and head based on your sleeping position, which can help to reduce muscle tension that can contribute to headaches.
