Hobbies That Burn Calories and Keep You Fit

By Genevieve Cunningham

Having hobbies is incredibly important for your own personal well-being. Hobbies keep our minds engaged and learning as we age. They also give us purpose and meaning to our lives. While any hobby is good for you, there may be some that are better than others. In fact, some hobbies may even be able to help you stay fit and healthy. If you’re looking for a new hobby and improving health at the same time sounds good, check out these three great options.

Running

This might not sound like a hobby to everyone, but for some people, it’s a true passion. Even if you’re running slowly, it burns major calories and tones up muscles all over the body. Pick a fun 5K to run in a few months, and start training. Start slowly, and only go faster if your body and mind are ready to do so. Keeping the running hobby fun and light makes it more enjoyable, which makes it much more likely that you’ll keep on doing it into the future.

Photography

This has to be done in the right manner in order to burn calories, but if you do it right, it can be fun, creative, calorie burning, and even money making! If you simply sit in a chair all day and take pictures of whatever is in front of you, you probably won’t burn many calories. But if you get up and go looking for subjects, you may burn more calories than you ever imagined! Take a walk through the park or the mall and find interesting photos to snap. Get out there and move instead of letting the subject come to you. Not only will you find much more interesting topics to picture, but you’ll stay in better shape and burn more calories as well.

Dancing

Whether it’s a dance class or just dancing for fun, this is an excellent hobby for staying in shape. Dancing burns massive calories, tones muscles, and keeps the body in good condition. If you’re interested, give it a try. If you’re nervous, start in your own home and branch out to a fun class once you’ve gotten over the initial shyness and are ready to learn more.

The best way to lose weight is to have fun doing it. So why not learn something new, burn calories, lose weight, and have a blast all at the same time? Try any of these fun hobbies to see if they work for you. Once you find the right one for you, you may find that getting in shape was never easier.
