How to Lose a Little Fat Around the Middle

By Genevieve Cunningham

Most people who are looking to lose weight want to lose a few pounds around the middle. No one particularly likes the look of the spare tire. Unfortunately, most of us have a little bit to lose in the midsection. As you probably already know, this can be a tough task. But it's definitely not impossible. If you're ready to finally lose a little bit of weight from your stomach area, take a look at these tips to help you get started today.

Lower Your Body Fat Percentage

You've probably heard this before: spot reduction is really not possible. If you want to lose fat around the middle, then you probably need to lose fat overall. This means eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly in order to lower your total body fat percentage. It might be that the weight around your middle comes off first. But this is not always the case, as some people lose in the legs or in the hip area before the middle shrinks. It doesn't matter in which manner you lose, stay at it. Lower your body fat percentage, and that stubborn fat around the middle will eventually begin to fall.

Lower Stress

Excessive stress can lead to an increase in fat around the midsection. Stress causes our body to create a hormone that has been directly linked to belly fat. If you want to stop this hormone from being made, then you definitely need to lower your stress. How can you do this? You can start by limiting your activities, ending procrastination, taking time for yourself, and prioritizing your life. Once you finally get your stress lower, you may notice that the fat around the middle comes off just a little bit easier.

Limit Sugar

You probably don't want to hear this, but if you're going to lose belly fat then you need to lower your sugar intake. Sugar is a chemical that has been linked to an increase in belly fat. Many find that this fat shrinks significantly when they simply lower the amount of sugar consumed on a daily basis. Though you definitely can, you don't have to give up all of the sugar in your life. Give up the extras like desserts, juices, sodas, and similar items. Just be slow and easy with yourself, as sugar is an addictive substance that may take a while to quit for good.

No one likes excess belly fat. We're not particularly proud of our muffin tops or of that jiggly sensation in a swimsuit. But luckily, there are things that you can do to shrink this area of the body. Use these tips to get started, and you may be able to get closer to the body of your dreams in no time at all.
