Signs That You Should Try a New Workout
By Genevieve Cunningham
Exercise can be a fun way to stay healthy. While some people think about exercise and immediately feel dread, it doesn’t actually have to be this way. It can be challenging and motivating and fun! But how? One of the most important things that you can do to keep your workout motivation alive is to change it up. But how do you know when it’s time? If your workout is getting stale, take a look at these three signs that a change in your routine is necessary.
Your Body Stopped Responding
Exercise makes the body change. The more consistently you work out, the more change you’ll see in your body. But there is a point in time when your body stops responding to your current workout. You may notice that you stopped losing weight. You may notice that you’re not building any more muscle. You may notice that it simply doesn’t feel challenging. If these things are happening to you, go ahead and change it up. It probably won’t be long until a new workout makes you feel challenged and sore.
You're Bored
Don’t forget that exercise is as much about the mind as it is about the body. If you’re bored with your workout, it’s OK to choose something else. Sick of running? Try kickboxing. Is your class getting stale? Try a new one. You aren’t obligated to stay in the same workout … even if other people are involved. Boredom will lead to frustration, which will lead to giving up. If you’re bored, switch it up and you’ll feel better in no time.
You're Beginning to Dread the Gym
You’re not supposed to dread working out. And if you do, you’re doing it wrong. Life is too short to feel dread. And it’s especially too short to feel dread when you don’t have to! Just choose a new workout. Choose something that feels good and welcoming. Choose something that makes you excited to go to the gym. Or if all else fails, choose the activity with the least amount of dread attached. Keep in mind that you just don’t have to hate it. Give yourself permission to change something you don’t like and you’ll be loving your exercise routine in no time.
Changing up your exercise routine can be a good thing. It can be powerful and effective. If you’ve noticed these things happening in your life, it’s a good indication that change should happen now. Find a new workout, give it a try, and get to love your workout again so that you can get in the best shape of your life.
