How to End Insomnia and Finally Gain Energy
By Genevieve Cunningham
Insomnia is the worst. No one likes to lose sleep … unless of course you're doing it on purpose. But for the most part, most people who aren't getting enough rest desperately wish they could get more. Unfortunately, this is often easier said than done. Sometimes it seems that the more we wish for sleep, the harder it is to find, which can lead to a frustrating cycle of worry and insomnia. So what can we do? If you're ready to leave the insomnia behind, get more sleep every night, and feel better than ever before, take a look at these tips to help you make it happen in your life.
Set a Routine
Routines are huge. We often skip the routines in lieu of slight chaos and a little excitement in our lives, but if you’re trying to improve health and get more sleep, routines are essential. Set both a bedtime and wake-up time and stick with it as much as possible. Form a ritual before bed -- maybe a little reading, hot tea, and a light massage -- and do that ritual every night before bed. Routines help prepare the body and mind for sleep, so use them to your advantage to beat insomnia and get some rest.
Improve Your Diet
Many are surprised to find that diet greatly affects quality of sleep. Why? Because what we eat affects how our body digests the food, how it functions on a regular basis, and how we feel overall. If we're filling our bodies with junk, we're going to feel like junk. We'll feel sluggish and rundown, and our bodies won't function as well as they should. This definitely affects sleep. If you change your diet to include less sugar and processed foods and more fresh fruits and veggies and lean meats, you may find that better sleep is an almost automatic side effect.
Sometimes we're too wound up. We worry about everything. We have too much to do and not enough time to get it all done. If this sounds familiar, then you've probably found the source of your insomnia and the energy zapper in your life. If you take time to relax -- whether it's with a bedtime routine or a day off work -- you may find that sleep is easier to find and energy suddenly shows up more than ever before.
Everyone will lose a little sleep now and again. We'll all stay up too late and pay the price in the morning. But if insomnia is a regular thing in your life, it's times to nip it in the bud and get the rest you need. Use these tips to lose the lack of sleep and gain energy, and feel better than ever in no time at all.
