3 Effective Ways to Avoid the Sugar Temptation
By Genevieve Cunningham
Sugar. It's everywhere, and we love it. That sweet addicting sensation that hits our taste buds ... many of us simply can't resist. But the unfortunate truth is that sugar really isn't very good for our bodies. It can make us gain weight, cause headaches, and even cause blemishes on the skin. Of course, eliminating sugar from our diets is easier said than done. But the good news is that, even though it's difficult, it's still possible. If you need help cutting sugar from your life, take a look at these tips for avoiding that sugar temptation and getting your diet on track.
Keep Sweet Treats On Hand
This might sound counterproductive, but the trick is to make sure your new go-to sweet treats are healthy. Instead of carrying a candy bar or sugary granola bar in your bag, stick to something like fresh fruit. This option gives you the sweet flavor, but with far fewer calories and far more nutrients. It’s an easy way to make the switch from sugar to less sugar to the eventual no sugar way of life.
Try a Flavored Drink
Drinks serve two purposes: They give you the sweet kick and also fill your stomach. The key is to choose a drink that isn’t terribly unhealthy. Don’t reach for juice or soda, but instead try an herbal tea or a simple flavored water. The fewer calories, the better. As you get used to consuming less sugar, switch from your flavored drink to water and your health will improve like never before.
Allow One Treat Per Day
For a lot of people, cutting out all sugar just won’t work. It’s too much too fast. Giving it all up eventually leads to bingeing on sugar, and this defeats the entire purpose. If this is likely to happen to you, it might be a better option to allow yourself one sugary treat per day. Choose a dessert of some kind, decide what time of day you’ll be eating it, and then don’t deviate from the plan.
Sugar isn’t necessarily the enemy, but it’s not necessarily good for us either. If you’re ready to cut back, use these tips to help you fight the temptation. With a little practice and some perseverance, you’ll be on your way to a healthy diet in no time at all.
