End the Year in Good Health!
By Donna Stark
We've only got a few more months to go until we can kiss this year goodbye and if you are like the majority of people I know, there won't be any tears shed while doing so. But until then, it is important to take all the necessary measures that will keep your body healthy and strong. And since you know we are just about ready to enter the cold and flu season, you need to start as soon as you can! Here are a few of the most important things you should do that will help keep those nasty viruses and bacteria from getting the best of you.
Get Enough Sleep
Your life is busy and during the next couple of months, it could end up being even busier than ever before. But if you aren't careful, and if you push yourself too hard, your immune system could take a hit. Sleep deprivation never looks good on anyone but what makes it worse than how it appears, is that it weakens your immunity and makes you more susceptible to infections. Aim for the recommended amount of sleep each night and you should be good to go.
Consume a Healthy Diet
Want to build a wall of defense in your body? The easiest way to do so is with a healthy diet rich in nutrient-dense foods. Balance your day with plenty of vegetables, fruit, lean proteins, whole grains, and heart-healthy fats, and try to limit the amount of processed foods and refined sugar you consume. It will keep your immune system strong and ready for battle!
Create a Healthy Environment
Your environment plays a big role in how well you stay well, so be sure to stay on top of the cleaning and disinfecting. At home, wash bedding every week and consider investing in a humidifier and air purifier if necessary. At the office, give your desk and work equipment a good scrubbing and keep some disinfecting wipes nearby. Those nasty germs won't stand a chance!
Maintain Good Hygiene
If you want to increase your chances of exiting the cold and flu season unscathed, you have to practice good hygiene. Germs hate soap and water so kill them when they least expect it by washing your hands frequently. It's also a good idea to carry a small bottle of hand sanitizer around with you. But the most important rule to remember is to keep your hands and fingers away from your face.
End the Year in Good Health
There is no better way to start a new year than to enter it in good health and complete happiness. Follow the tips above and finish this year off with a healthy bang ... and then have fun kissing it goodbye forever!
