Chiropractic Tips Put the Holidays into Perspective
By Sandy Schroeder
When the pumpkin patches seem to be everywhere, followed closely by the Thanksgiving turkey, we know the holidays are upon us. For some of us, that’s where the trouble starts as we leap into action and try to cover every base.
Balancing family and work, we try to weave in extra holiday plans. Everybody but the dog gets involved as we redo the family room on the weekend, start baking endless trays of holiday cookies, and sail out for bouts of gift shopping.
Just as we are really getting into it, pain may shut us down. Holiday overload strikes again.
Avoiding Holiday Overload
“Our bodies have the capacity to do a little more than we normally do, but our bodies do not adapt very well to doing a lot more than we normally do,” said Scott Bautch, spokesman for the American Chiropractic Association.
During the holidays we try to field everything at once and our bodies complain.
ACA’s Dr. Robert Hayden, Ph.D, suggested: “When lifting bulky boxes and bags, stand as close to the object as possible, pull it into your body, and use your biceps to pick it up. Also engage your thigh muscles, and push through your legs.”
Chiropractic Assistance
If this sounds all too familiar, or you are already at the point of pain, stop by The Joint Chiropractic clinic near you. The Joint has a comprehensive wellness center staffed with licensed chiropractors to help you make it through the holidays, and on into the new year.
In your initial visit, your chiropractor will explain the theory of spinal health, using a spinal adjustment to check for any misalignments that you may have. For the spinal adjustment you will lie on your stomach on a special table in an open room. After the adjustment you may experience far-reaching relief for pain in the neck, back, sciatica or other joints. Some patients also note benefits such as better mental focus, more energy, or a more relaxed feeling.
At that point, before you head back into the holiday fray, your chiropractor may suggest pacing yourself, eating right, drinking lots of water, and pausing here and there just to enjoy the moment.
If this sounds like the kind of support you need, stop by The Joint Chiropractic and get started. The Joint has simplified everything. Insurance is no longer needed. A private, affordable care pricing plan is provided. No appointment is needed. Clinics are open on weekends and in the evening to fit your schedule. Walk-in visits are welcome.
