How to Get a Little More Sleep Every Day
By Genevieve Cunningham
Sleep is one of the most important parts of our day. When we don’t get enough, our bodies and minds both suffer in a big way. But it would be a lie to say that getting enough sleep is easy. It’s not easy at all. We’re busy people with busy lives and obligations that can’t be ignored. So how do you get more rest in a world that constantly tells you to go-go-go. Take a look at these tips for getting just a little more shut-eye every day, and ultimately enhancing your health in a big way.
Schedule a Nap
Everything else in our lives is scheduled; why not schedule a nap as well? If you normally take a 30-minute break after lunch, use that time to get in a quick nap. Or take a few minutes as soon as you get home to rest and relax. Even as little as 10 minutes can completely change the way you feel about the rest of your day. Don’t have time? Make it, and you’ll find your health improve in a big way.
Strengthen Your Bedtime Routine
Many of us try to get enough sleep, but we don’t do ourselves any favors with our bedtime routines. We might get in the bed and watch some TV, play on our phones, or browse the internet on our laptops. All of these are detrimental to sleep. Instead, make your bed a technology-free zone. No phones, no computers, no devices of any kind. This helps your brain to wind down, which then leads to faster and better sleep every night.
Tire Yourself Out
If you haven’t been active enough throughout the day, you may not be able to fall asleep at night. Keep this in check by getting in some exercise every day and avoiding stimulants after noon. No afternoon coffee, no Red Bull in the evening. Instead, stick to exercising and drinking caffeine early in the day, and allow your body to wind down naturally as the day progresses.
Getting enough sleep is crucial for living a healthy and happy life. But it’s definitely not an easy task. Life and all of its happenings tend to get in the way. Use these tips to get just a little more rest every day, and to improve your health over the years for a lifetime of living well.
