Why Your Body Needs a Reset and How to Do It
By Genevieve Cunningham
Have you ever been browsing your favorite news site or social media site on your phone when suddenly everything freezes? You can't scroll. You can't click. All you can do is restart it. Most people have had this experience before -- whether on the phone, computer, or other technological device. But surprisingly, most people have also had this experience in their own bodies, but they just don't realize it. Our bodies can get so out of sync that the best option is a reset. But what exactly does that mean? And how do we know when it's time to stop and refresh ourselves? If you suspect that you've felt this before, take a look at these signs it's necessary, followed by some tips to give yourself a break.
You're Exhausted
Exhaustion is normal after a long day or after poor sleep. But it's absolutely not normal on a daily basis. If you're constantly exhausted, something is wrong. If you feel this way regularly, it might be time to stop and reset your habits to beat the fatigue for good.
You've Been Eating Poorly
Diet affects everything. If you've been slipping on healthy eating and consuming too much junk, you might feel sluggish. This can signal that it's time to recharge your diet and give your body the nutrients that it needs versus the flavors that you want.
You're Overwhelmed
Being overwhelmed is a frustrating sensation. Sometimes, when we have a million things to do, we might begin to feel this way, and in those situations, it's OK. But if you constantly feel overwhelmed, you may need to reset. And you may be surprised at how much better you feel when you do.
How to Do It
Take a day off - Sometimes you just need rest. If you're exhausted or overwhelmed, take a day off and do what you need to -- even if it's just sleep!
Fast - Fasting can actually be really beneficial, but it's important to listen to your body. Fast for 8 hours, 16 hours, or 24. This can help you reset both body and mind. If you have any medical conditions, check with your doctor before taking on this challenge.
Purge your life - You can't reset if you're hanging on to a bunch of negative things. Purge negative people. Purge the junk food. Purge your schedule. Once you do this, you'll probably notice quite a bit of the stress and negativity lift almost immediately.
It's OK to need a reset in your life, and it's OK to do it! Use these tips to help you get your body, mind, and health back under control. With some planning and actions performed on purpose, you can enhance your life and feel better than ever in no time at all.
