Healthy Habits That Are Easy to Adopt
By Genevieve Cunningham
Changing our health is as simple as changing our habits. Our habits make up who we are and how we feel. Bad habits lead us to feeling bad while good habits promote a feeling of wellness. The only problem is that changing our habits isn't simple at all. It's a challenge that frustrates many along the way. But does it have to be hard? Or can we change our habits with a little less fuss and frustration? If you're ready to change your health and habits for the better, take a look at these three easy places to start.
Add a Few Swallows of Water
Maybe you're not ready to give up soda. Maybe you need a little extra caffeine in the afternoon. Fine -- then don't start with eliminating your favorite drinks. Instead, start by adding a few extra swallows of water every day. Not full glasses. Not entire water bottles. Just a few swallows. As your body becomes hydrated, you'll start to feel better in your body. The few swallows will turn into an extra glass and then another, and soon, you'll be fueling your body with healthy amounts of water for better health moving forward.
Turn Off the Bedroom Lights
Darkness is incredibly beneficial to sleep. When there is light, our eyes sense it. We, for lack of a better phrase, see the light -- even with our eyes closed. Try turning off the overhead light in your sleeping space, and then turn off night lights, lamps, and especially anything that emits a blue light (like technology!). You may be surprised at what a difference it makes to your quality of sleep, and equally as surprised at the difference better sleep makes to overall health.
Protect Your Skin
Our skin is such a huge part of our confidence. If we don't take care of it, we damage our physical health -- but we also damage our mental well-being. Start putting sunscreen and moisturizer on your skin every day. Exfoliate to get rid of rough spots and blemishes. Care for your skin and its health and appearance. This is a tiny little step that can improve your health from the inside out, and make you -- quite literally -- feel good in your own skin.
The easier we make the process of change, the more likely we are to stick with it. And sticking with it -- when it comes to our personal health and wellness -- is extremely important. Use these tips to slowly change your ways and improve your health. Be consistent and patient, and you may find that small changes make a huge difference in the way you feel starting right away.
