Strengthen Your Core With Exercise and Chiropractic
By Paul Rothbart
One of the most important parts of the body is sometimes overlooked. People tend to focus on exercising their limbs and joints. Those parts are certainly important to good health. But there is a group of muscles that are essential to pretty much every activity whether strenuous or routine. The muscles of the torso, mainly made up of the abdominals and lower back, are known as the core for a reason. They connect the upper and lower body and support them even when just standing or sitting. During exercise such as swimming, running, or playing sports, they work even harder. A strong core is a vital part of a healthy body and avoiding injury.
Warm Up
As with any type of exercise, it's important to warm up before working the core. Exercising muscles that are not ready can cause injury and core injuries can prevent you from doing most things. Light calisthenics or a brisk walk with arms swinging are good ways to warm up the core.
Proper Form
No matter which exercises you do for your core, proper form is essential. Fewer reps performed perfectly are much more helpful than more reps sloppily done. Go slowly and focus on the feel of the exercise. Consistency is also important. Exercise your core at least three days a week.
Work the Entire Core
Many people love the look of a well-defined six-pack, but the abs are only one part of the core. Don't neglect the lower back or the muscles at the sides of the torso. They all work together to provide the strength to keep your core healthy and supportive. It's not just about looks.
Stop if It Hurts
Feeling the burn is normal but if anything hurts while exercising, stop immediately. Rest for a while. If the pain doesn't stop, ice it and get medical attention. Significant pain is a sign of injury, which is what you are trying to avoid. Be careful.
See a Chiropractor
When it comes to taking care of your core, chiropractic care may be one of the best things for it. A chiropractor can examine your spine and hips and locate any subluxations or other problems. They can then be adjusted, leaving you in good shape to continue your training. Chiropractors can also work on muscles and tendons which are important parts of the core. Regular visits can be a good addition to exercise.
A strong core is one of the most important parts of a healthy body. Exercise it regularly and carefully. Consider a visit to The Joint Chiropractic. You don't need an appointment. You may find that regular chiropractic treatments contribute to keeping your core strong and healthy.
