Do More Indoor and Outdoor Biking
By Brandi Goodman
May's Bike Month encourages people to get out and ride more often. Outdoor biking isn't the only option though. Even on cold, windy, or rainy days, you still have the opportunity to gain the benefits of biking by trying an indoor cycling bike. Both options provide benefits to those who choose to participate.
Indoor Cycling
You can use indoor cycling on a stationary bike as a way to improve your fitness. An exercise bike works out your legs well. Pumping the pedals and moving your legs back and forth will help to build and tone the muscles in your lower body. You'll be burning calories, working on losing or maintaining weight, improving the mobility of your joints, and boosting your mood. One of the biggest benefits is that you don't even have to step foot outdoors. You can use indoor cycling for your exercise routine any day of the week, no matter the weather. It is also great for all fitness levels. If you haven't been on a bike in years and do not yet feel comfortable riding outdoors, then an indoor option that remains stationary can help get you started.
If you want to focus more on your mental health, then adding music to the mix could be beneficial. Turn on your favorite songs and pedal to your heart's content. It will help you to get out of your head and stop focusing on the pain your legs may be feeling.
Outdoor Biking
Outdoor biking provides all of the same benefits of indoor cycling. You'll experience better flexibility, improved balance, toned legs, and more, all while burning calories. Being outdoors boosts your health in other ways as well though. Outdoor exercise can do a lot to boost your mood and improve your mental health. As you ride, take in the sights around you. Allow your mind to be cleared of all the stressful thoughts you've been having and simply enjoy your time spent soaring down the street on your bike as the trees, flowers, houses, and other scenery passes your eyes.
Both indoor and outdoor biking provide health and fitness benefits you don't want to miss. Make sure you have a bike that fits you well and feels comfortable if you want it to remain a pain-free experience. You can even visit The Joint Chiropractic if needed to have joint restrictions or subluxations removed that might interfere with your cycling activities. You want to be as flexible and prepared as possible so you can ride without injury.
