5 Healthy Chicken Recipes to Enjoy

By Brandi Goodman

Coming up in September is National Chicken Month. You don't have to celebrate this month only, though. Chicken is a great food to enjoy all year-round. Create chicken recipes that are healthy and delicious and you'll have something to eat anytime you're in the mood for the meat.

Lemon Herb Chicken Pasta

Chicken is a common addition to pasta, but many pasta options are full of fat and calories. Improve the dish by creating a lemon herb chicken pasta combined with spinach, snap peas, and green peas. Use a vegetable penne pasta that is healthier to consume and bright orange in color that will help to make a colorful and unique dish. Use lemon juice, olive oil, and seasonings to flavor the meal.

Buffalo Chicken Salad

A salad topped with chicken is also a common meal. What isn't so common is adding spice to a salad so it really gets the taste buds going. Buffalo chicken slices and carrot shavings can be added to spinach and lettuce for a spicy yet healthy lunch or dinner.

Stuffed Chicken Divan

Rather than stuffing your chicken with cheese or something else full of fat and calories, try stuffing it with broccoli instead. You'll up your fiber and nutrients by doing so and create a unique meal that's unlike any other. You can add in a bit of grated cheese if you still want to experience some cheesiness with the dish. Chop up garlic and thyme as well for seasoning.

Orange Chicken Fingers

Chicken fingers, chicken tenders, and chicken nuggets are all popular choices. Most of these breaded options are too high in calories and carbohydrates though. Lower the content of both by using crushed rice cereal for the coating. A low-sugar orange dipping sauce pairs with this recipe.

Honey-Mustard Chicken and Apples

For a unique dish, try honey-mustard chicken and apples. This meal is quite nutritious due to the fruit it's paired with. It provides lots of antioxidants and vitamins. Honey mustard, kosher salt and pepper, onion, unsalted butter, unbleached flour, and parsley come together to create the sauce for the chicken. You'll also need two large apples diced up.

Chicken provides lots of protein while being lower in fat than many other meat options. Vitamin B6, selenium, and niacin are also found in the food. Enjoy healthy chicken recipes anytime you desire and get the benefits.
