Sleep Soundly No Matter the Weather
By Brandi Goodman
Sleep can be difficult to achieve already. Add in some not-so-stellar weather and you can really struggle to get the Zzz's you need for a well-rested body and mind. With some tips to try, you can sleep soundly no matter the weather. It may just take a bit of practice before you settle on the right options and environment for your needs.
Raise or Lower Your Body Temperature
When you're trying to get to sleep, yet your body feels too cold, you need to do something to warm it up. You won't get any rest if you're up shivering all night. The same applies when you're hot. You can't drift off if you're tossing, turning, and sweating from the heat. You need to raise or lower your body temperature depending on the weather so you can sleep comfortably. Take a hot or cold shower before bed to help.
Drown Out the Noise
Whether there's a storm brewing or you just have loud roommates, you need to find ways to drown out the noise so you can get some rest. It can be difficult to sleep when loud noises continue to occur. Drown out the noise the best way you can. Get thick curtains that block out the light and the sound. Try wearing noise-cancelling headphones. You may even opt to play your own noise instead. A white noise machine or even light music can help you have something more peaceful to focus on that can help you drift off.
Change the Blanket You're Using
A thick comforter is not going to work on a hot day. A thin sheet won't keep you warm enough on a cold night. You need to change the blanket you're using based on the weather you're currently experiencing. Have a few different options so you can always have the right one for the job.
Choose Appropriate Sleepwear
What you choose to sleep in also affects how well you rest. If you have on pants and socks when it's hot, you may be much too hot to get any sleep. If you're only in a pair of shorts and have bare feet, you won't get many Zzz's when it's cold out. You need to make sure you have on the appropriate sleepwear that helps keep you hot or cold -- the opposite of the current weather. The material also plays a role. Some moisture-wicking options may work best in the heat. Fleece will keep you heated in the cold.
You can sleep soundly no matter the weather. You just need to keep a few tips in mind to be able to do so. Find the options that work well for you and stick with them to help yourself achieve a peaceful sleep every night.
