3 Tips for Healthy Weight Loss

By Virginia Laird

Doesn't everyone wish that losing weight could be a simple, easy task! Sadly, it is one of the most difficult challenges one can face. Many believe that dropping a few unwanted pounds requires drastic changes to lifestyle. While it can tempt even the strongest person to throw in the towel, sticking to your plan can lead to great results. Healthcare experts recommend a few go-to habits to add to your daily routine to help you improve your health as you lose weight. A few of their tips include:

  • Plenty of sleep can help
  • Cut out sugar
  • Rely on water more often

Plenty of Sleep Can Help

There are plenty of nights in which I find myself with far too much to do. This leads me to stay up for hours, far past when I should have hit the pillow. While it is nice to get everything on my to-do list checked off for the day, taking precious hours away from sleep can hamper the body's ability to shed weight. Research provides enough evidence to see that sleep can affect your metabolism, which plays a key role in your ability to lose weight. Healthcare experts recommend to adult patients that a minimum of six hours of sleep is required. There are plenty who need far more than this. Knowing what your body needs to function properly and making it a priority to get that amount of sleep is imperative to your weight loss journey.

Cut Out Sugar

Sugar is a substance that many have a love/hate relationship with. While it can be pleasing to the tongue, research has proven that is can be detrimental to your overall wellness. One of the major drawbacks to consuming a lot of sugar is that is can lead to weight gain. For many it can also lead to more serious issues, including diabetes. Healthcare experts warn that cutting this substance from your diet (cold turkey) can result in symptoms of withdrawal. For this reason, many recommend that slowly reducing consumption is best.

Rely On Water More Often

Staying properly hydrated is an issue that everyone at every age should be concerned with. This is especially true for those with a desire to shed a few pounds. Water is a zero calorie beverage that can be used as a filler and appetite curbing tool. There are plenty of experts who recommend that drinking a glass of water prior to  each meal can help you feel more full and deter you from going back for more. These same professionals suggest that the proper amount of water to consume is at least half of your body weight in ounces each day.
