Fitness Tips for People With Busy Lives

By Brandi Swieter

With work, kids, afterschool activities and more filling many people’s to-do lists, there is often little time left for exercise. People with busy lives typically find it difficult to get in some fitness time because they’re spending all of their waking hours doing other activities. With fitness so important, it’s necessary for individuals to start focusing more on finding time for exercise and cutting out some of the other things they don’t truly need to do.

Schedule Time

The best way to get in exercise time is to schedule it. By adding it to the calendar, people can see precisely which days and times they have for getting fit. Just a few days a week at a half hour to an hour each session is all anyone needs to start getting on the right track with their health. It can be planned into the mornings before heading to work, or even during TV time in the evening hours while at home.

Pick a Workout You Can Do Anywhere

If you’re busy traveling, then time at the gym might not be possible. It’s best to pick a workout you can do anywhere so you ensure something gets done. A quick half-hour workout in the hotel room will suffice for the day. Jog in place, do some squats and sit-ups, and practice some boxing moves for a well-rounded exercise plan that keeps you on track.

Exercise at Your Desk

Many people spend a majority of their lives sitting down at a desk. This is bad for the body and can lead to serious health issues. Exercising directly from a desk is a great way to get in some fitness time while also not allowing the body to become stagnant. Lift one leg and hold it in place for several seconds. Put it down and lift the other leg to do the same. Repeat this several times. You can also hold yourself by the arms of the chair and lift your backside and legs from the seat. Hold this position for several seconds and return to a seated position. Any type of movement will suffice to get the muscles working and blood flowing.

Find a 24-Hour Gym

While some gyms close up shop after typical workday hours, such as 9 to 5, there are plenty that remain open 24 hours a day. Find one of these all-day gyms nearby and start fitting in some gym time when you can. At lunch hour, before work, or after work are all ideal times.

Fitness is important for every person no matter their lifestyle. All people need exercise to promote health, get a good night’s rest, and have better mental clarity. Even with a busy life, everyone can find time for fitness if they schedule it, exercise at their desk, and pick a workout that can get done anywhere with no equipment required. Start today for improved health.
