Is There Such Thing as Starting Your Day Right?

By Tom Herrin

For years, many people have been told that certain things are the most important component for starting a day right.  For some, it is getting out and walking or exercising. For others, it may be getting up early in order to take advantage of those early morning hours, as if others are less important.  For still others, they were told that breakfast was the most critical way to start the day right. There are, without a doubt, certain things that are often provided by breakfast that simply do more at that time in the way of keeping the rest of the day going well.  One thing is for certain, just how someone eats breakfast may have an influence on the remainder of the day and the kind of performance they have.

It Can Provide the Energy You Need to Get Through the Day

The body is like any other piece of machinery that performs work.  It must have a good supply of fuel. If it has the right kind, it will be able to do more for a longer period of time.  The key is it must be the right kind. Protein is essential to build muscle or replace that which has been used. Good carbohydrates can help to power the needs of people to do what they need to do.  Those from fruits or other healthy sources far surpass those that come from packaged drinks that purport to do that.

It May Help Delay or Prevent Diabetes

Many people today suffer from type 2 diabetes.  It has become almost epidemic. Much of it can be attributed to poor habits.  Among them are a lack of exercise, insufficient rest, and poor eating habits. Too many people put off meals or skip them altogether.  It can be extremely harmful to go without food. Many eat nothing, and then overeat to compensate. This proves to be very serious for some.  Eating on a more regular schedule and eating three meals per day can help the body keep better balance.

It Can Be Individualized

Eating a good breakfast may mean different things to different people.  Some love their traditional eggs, bacon, toast or some form of it. Others are strictly cereal eaters, possibly adding some fruit or other item.  Still others indulge in pancakes daily. What we eat is not as important as the fact that we plan and eat accordingly. Our breakfast should help to start us off well and balance out our day.  I generally eat some form of oats with a little something added. My goal is to eat light while helping to lower cholesterol but still have a sufficient amount to supply my needs in order to perform work.  Make it personal, but eat breakfast.
