Start Your Day Off Right with These Productive Habits
By Donna Stark
I’m sure that I am not the only one who has fought with their mother about making the bed. As an adult and with children, I understand it now, but as a kid, it really didn’t make much sense to me. I mean, after all, it was just going to get messed up again later that day, right? But the simple task of making your bed can set in motion a good and productive day because it has a sort of domino effectin which it ignites a chain reaction of one good decision after the next.
Start Your Day off Right
Making the bed lowers stress and increases happiness, productivity, and peace. One of the first steps to achieving a calm and successful morning is to create a calm and organized bedroom. Studies have shown that a day is more likely to be perceived as successful if it is started on the right foot. Making your bed is a big component to this, but there are other factors that can influence your day as well. Let’s look at a few of them here.
- Minimize morning chores - Prep the coffeemaker, organize what you need for the day, and lay out your clothes the night before
- Rise early - The earlier you rise, the more time you’ll have to kick off your day just as you like it
- Skip the phone grab - Save the social media and emails for later and use the time in the morning to start your routine with a positive state of mind
- Exercise - Exercise in the morning will get your heart pumping, your blood flowing, and will start that chain reaction of good decisions almost immediately
- Stretch - Whether heading to work or play, stretching is important to prepare and loosen your muscles for the day ahead
- Enjoy your cup of tea or coffee - Instead of rushing out the door with a mug of hot coffee spilling over your hand, take the time to sit at home and really enjoy it
- Plan your day - Prioritize your to-do list while enjoying that morning cup-of-joe
Don’t Hit That Snooze Button
Sure, it’s hard to get out of bed in the morning, but if you establish good habits like these, you know that you can expect a great day ahead of you. That’s because, in a very basic way, these habits help to provide structure and security, and what better way to head out your door than with those two factors influencing what lies ahead of you? It’s never too late to be productive and create a morning routine that sets you up for success. Who knew that pulling up your bed covers could help you accomplish so much? Well, besides your mom, of course.
