Pediatric Chiropractic Care Increasing in Popularity

By Debra Rodzinak

The popularity of children visiting the chiropractor for a wellness adjustment has lost the stigma it once had. In a 2008 paper by Gotlib and Rupert, it was noted that “Chiropractors continue to treat a wide variety of pediatric health conditions.” In fact, there is increasing support and data that indicates that chiropractic patients who are below the age of 17 years “has increased at least 8.5 percent since 1991.” Chiropractors are now helping children with back and neck pain at a rate never seen before.

Why is Chiropractic Care for Children Growing?

Many parents are looking for an all natural way to relieve pain their child may feel through back injuries or joint stiffness. The thought of giving their child pain medicine for a backache or neck pain seems excessive to some parents. Chiropractic care for children uses no drugs of any kind, but rather gentle spinal adjustments to relieve pain and bring support to the spine and joints.

Isn’t Chiropractic Care Only for Elderly Patients?

This is a statement heard over and over again, but it is just plain wrong! Many older patients seek chiropractic care for spine and joint pain due to aging, but patients in their 30s, 20s, and now children under 18 are visiting their local chiropractor regularly for a wellness adjustment.

What Is a Wellness Adjustment and Why Does My Child Need One?

A wellness adjustment is a gentle manipulation of the spinal column performed as part of an overall personalized treatment plan with a certified chiropractor. At The Joint, the patient is in charge of their wellness plan and is supported by the doctor.

In January 2009, the American Chiropractic Association released a statement that indicated that “chiropractic can help children … with typical back and neck pain complaints.” It is recommended that children visit a chiropractor every month or two for wellness care. Keeping a child’s spine straight and flexible will help the child’s spinal movement along with the extremities.

How Do I Find a Chiropractor in My Area?

At The Joint, there are many convenient locations to choose from with extended hours during the week and on the weekends. Walk in to any area location and don’t worry about appointment times or pesky insurance forms. The Joint has neither!

With many affordable plans and packages to choose from, you will easily find a plan suited just for you and your child.
