Feeling Stressed? Here's What You Can Do

By Genevieve Cunningham

Stress. You've felt it before. You'll feel it again. In fact, you're probably experiencing some sort of stress right now. Most of us have come to accept stress as a part of life. There's little we can do to avoid it, and getting rid of it is even harder. But does it have to be? Isn't there anything we can do to lower our stress levels and feel more relaxed about life? Luckily, the answer is yes! If you're interested in getting rid of that heavy stress in your life, take a look at these tips for managing it every day.

You Can Limit Activities

It's so good to be busy. Being busy keeps us constantly engaged and active. It forces us to interact with other people and make friends. Unfortunately, there is such a thing as too busy. When we get too busy, the stress begins to pile on faster and faster. And since we're so tied up, we don't have the time or energy to manage it. When this begins to happen to you, it's time to say no to more activities. And it may even be time to say no to some of your current activities. Stay active, but don't overwhelm yourself. Limit your activities -- and your family activities -- so that everyone can breathe and relax at least a little every day.

You Can Go for a Walk

Exercise has been proven to be a stress buster. But we don't all have hours and hours per day to get in a hard core sweat session. Luckily, it doesn't have to be anything strenuous to bring about the benefits. When you get home in the afternoon after work, just go for a walk. And if you go for a walk outside, it's a double whammy, as nature can also calm the nerves and lower stress. At first, you may feel like you're wasting your time. But it won't take long before you realize the stress relieving benefits are worth the effort, and you may even find the walk enjoyable.

You Can Grab a Book and Some Tea

Certain kinds of tea are considered to be stress relievers. When you get home or sometime in the evening, make yourself some warm tea and grab a good book. Then find a quiet spot and get lost in your reading. It doesn't take long before your brain gets involved with your story, and the stress begins to fade. This is a great activity to do before bed, and an even better way to teach your kids to manage stress.

You're going to have stress. Unless you own your own private island (and probably even then!), stress is just going to be a part of life. But you don't have to allow it to consume you. You can manage it, as long as you know what to do. Use these tips to lower your stress levels today, and start feeling better about your life right away.
