A Constant State of Fatigue: 3 Tips for Beating It

By Genevieve Cunningham

Fatigue is a bummer. Though everyone experiences their own level of fatigue at some point, there are those who experience fatigue on a daily basis. They wake up, and they're tired. They drag through the day. At bedtime, they're still tired, and yet they rest a bit fitfully. While we often just suffer through this sensation, constant fatigue can be damaging to your mental and physical well-being. If you're ready to get some rest and boost your health, take a look at these tips for fighting off the fatigue for good.

Let's Focus on Rest

We often ignore our need for rest, but it's the simplest way to recharge your batteries and gain a little energy back. If you're not getting enough rest, you're going to be tired. It's plain and simple. So how much rest do you need? Though everyone is different, a good place to start is with a solid eight hours every night. But make sure these are of good quality. Turn off the lights, the sounds, the electronics. Allow yourself to find that deep sleep that truly heals and reinvigorates the body and mind. Focus on improving both quantity and quality of your rest, and you may find yourself with more energy in no time at all.

Let's Address the Diet

You can really deplete yourself of energy if you don't get the proper nutrients into your body. A poor diet -- one of junk food, soda, and sugar -- prevents the body from getting the vitamins and nutrients that help you thrive. If you want more energy, focus heavily on what you eat. Skip the junk. Skip the empty calories. Focus on getting more lean meats, fruits, and vegetables on a regular basis, and you may find your energy come back full force.

Let's Discuss Schedules

We like to imagine ourselves completely carefree -- no time clock to punch or alarm to set. But the truth is that beyond our need to get up and go to work, our bodies actually like schedules and routine. And when we don't have one, we send our body into chaos. You slept until 10 a.m. but still tired? Maybe you need to go back to your normal schedule of early nights and early mornings. When the body is on a regular schedule, it expects certain things -- certain amounts of rest, certain wake up times, certain food intake. And when we find the right routine for our bodies, we may be able to keep our energy levels up all day.

Fatigue can be a hard thing to beat. It takes dedication and persistence. But if you're willing to put in a little work, you can get rid of the fatigue and finally feel energized and healthy. Use these tips to get moving in the right direction and watch the health and energy come back like never before.
