Making Those Chiropractic Adjustments Last!
By Donna Stark
When you work hard and spend your money on things, you want those things to last. You want the new pair of running shoes to get you through the next year of training, you want the car you just bought to far exceed the warranty that comes with it, and you want your teenager's room to stay clean longer than just a few hours (after all, you are paying an allowance). The same can also be said about the adjustments you get from your local chiropractor. Fortunately, there are several things you can do to extend the benefits that come with your chiropractic adjustments. Take a look.
Pay Attention to Your Posture
You may already know that poor posture can lead to significant health issues and perhaps that's why you go in for regular adjustments, but if you leave your chiropractor and immediately head back to the office where you slouch and spend hours hunched over your laptop, your results won't last very long. Pay attention to how you are carrying and holding your body throughout the day and change those bad habits.
Add Movement
Improving your posture will definitely help to keep your body in proper alignment, but you still need to move throughout the day if you are constantly sitting. Add plenty of breaks to your schedule so you can stretch, take your phone calls while standing, and try to incorporate more steps to your day.
Lift and Work With Proper Form
Improper form while lifting or performing physical work can erase the positive effects of your last chiropractic adjustment, so be careful with how you move. Always use your knees and legs when lifting, avoid those awkward twists of your back, and don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it!
Drink Your Water
Water helps the body get rid of toxins that are released after an adjustment, so drinking plenty of water after your visit can be extremely beneficial. Water also contributes to optimal spinal health by helping the discs rehydrate. It is always a good idea to keep a water bottle filled and next to you throughout the day.
Get Some Exercise
Low-impact exercise will help improve the function of your muscles and joints while also improving your range of motion and flexibility. Walking, swimming, biking, and yoga are some examples of exercise options that will enhance the results from your last chiropractic adjustment and are ideal if you are recovering from an injury.
Long-Lasting Results
Making the benefits last after a chiropractic adjustment may require a few changes to your lifestyle, but the end result will be worth all of your efforts. And if you are unsure of where to start, you can ask your local chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic. They are always willing to help!
