Time it Right: Tips for Exercising All Day Long

By Genevieve Cunningham

Everyone knows that exercise is good for the body and soul. It helps us maintain a healthy weight, keeps our muscles strong, helps provide stability, and even improves moods. Exercise is also incredibly personal. What one person enjoys, another may not. This is especially true about exercising at different times of the day. Some love the morning while others need a nighttime run. No matter what time of day you choose to work out, take a look at these tips for exercising all day long.

In the Morning

If you like to exercise in the morning, you're a little ahead of the game. Exercising in the morning boosts energy, gets metabolism moving, and often makes you more productive at work. But it's also very difficult to exercise first thing. If you want to take this route, make sure that you're getting plenty of sleep. It also helps to drink a full glass of water before you begin your workout, as this will help to wake up the body and mind. Finally, it helps to lay out your clothes and have your workout planned ahead. That way when you wake up in the morning, you can throw on your outfit and get to working out with very little thought involved.

In the Afternoon

If you like to workout in the afternoon, you'll probably be dealing with things such as heat, exhaustion from the day, and dwindling motivation. In order to make an afternoon sweat session successful, make sure that you have planned ahead. Pack your workout clothes in a bag and take them to work. It's usually easiest if you hit the gym immediately after work instead of going home. This keeps you from making excuses and makes it more likely that you'll actually complete your workout.

In the Evening

If you like to work out at night, it's possible that you're also a bit of a night owl. Exercising in the evening sometimes wakes you up and makes it difficult to sleep. Make sure that you are working out early enough so that your sleep cycle is not disrupted. To make nighttime workouts easier, make sure that you have finished all of the obligations of the day. This is also a great time to join a class or work out with friends, as more people tend to be available in the evening rather than earlier in the day.

It doesn't really matter what time of day you choose to work out. The important thing is to make exercise a habit. Whether you like to work out first thing in the morning or the last thing before bed, use these tips to make your exercise effective. Get up, get moving, and enjoy the health benefits that come along with it.
