How a Little Fun Can Change Your Fitness
By Genevieve Cunningham
When we think of fitness, far too many think about all of the hard work. We think about the sore muscles that are sure to follow. We think about how much it's going to cost to join that new gym. In short, we think of all of the negatives. And this obsession with the hard parts of the fitness world makes the entire process daunting. It's why we quit before we see results -- because it's hard. But what if we made the process more fun? What if we laughed and smiled through our workouts and had a good time? Would it make a difference? Most likely, the answer is yes! If you've been known to take your workouts just a bit too seriously, take a look at how having a little fun can totally change your workouts for the better.
You Burn More Calories
If you're having fun during your workouts, you're definitely going to burn more calories. But why? When you're having fun, you're not paying attention to how much it burns. You're not worried about being out of breath. You're laughing and smiling and having fun. And because you're not worried about the hard part, you're probably going to push a little longer and work out a little longer. Don't be afraid to have fun while you're feeling the burn. With a little more fun, you probably won't feel the burn as bad at all.
You're More Likely to Do It
We're all more likely to do things that we enjoy. If you hate every second of your workout, you're not going to do it. Or at the very least, you're going to have more skip days. But if you like your workout, you're going to look forward to it. You're going to actually want to go. Don't underestimate the power of enjoying yourself. The more you like it, the more you'll do it, and the bigger results you'll ultimately see.
It Changes Your Lifestyle
The only changes that really last are those that are lifestyle changes. Any other kinds of change are just temporary. When we enjoy a change that we're making, it's much more likely to become a lifestyle change. We're going to stay active because we like it. And the more we do this, the more routine it becomes, and the more our lifestyles will change for the better.
Don't hate your workout. Don't hate fitness. If you do, it's time to make changes. Do things you enjoy. Do things that make you smile and laugh -- including your fitness routine! Make it fun, and you may find that getting healthy and fit is easier (and better!) than ever before.
