3 Ways to Make Running More Enjoyable

By Genevieve Cunningham

It’s hard to deny that running is a good workout. It’s a real challenge for most people, but we do it anyway because we know that it will help us get fit and healthy. Unfortunately, this sometimes means suffering through a run, even when you really don’t want to. This can be a serious drag, and for many, it means giving up this effective exercise, mostly because you simply don’t enjoy it. But what can we really do about it? It’s either suck it up or give it up, right? Not necessarily. If you would really like to keep running in your life, but you’d like to enjoy the process, take a look at these tips to make this exercise a bit more bearable.

Do a Race or Fun Run

Sometimes we need something to give us a little push in the right direction. And when it comes to running, completing a race or a fun run is an excellent goal. You don’t have to win. Just completing it is a serious accomplishment! And these kinds of running events are found all over the place all the time. Choose one in the near future, make a plan, and sign up. This might give you something to work toward, which can make the running workouts seem just a little less tedious.

Get a Really Great Playlist

Music is so empowering. It motivates, and it can really make or break a workout. And the same can be said about running. If your playlist isn’t motivating or doesn’t get you pumped, it’s going to be really hard to finish your run. On the other hand, if your playlist really gets you amped up and excited, the run may fly by faster than ever. Spend some time making a really great playlist, and you may be giving your workout a serious boost.

Join a Running Club

Running clubs exist all over the place. What are they? They literally consist of people who want to make running a habit, but who don’t want to do it alone. Check out your city’s local clubs, and give one or two a try. Finding some friends to run with you can make the process less dreadful, and may possibly make it exciting and fun.

You don’t have to give up running, but you don’t have to hate it either. Use these tips to make the running experience more enjoyable. With some slight changes to your running routine, you may learn to like the process, and then be able to use regular running to get in the best shape of your life.
