How to Keep Your Energy Up and Running
By Genevieve Cunningham
Energy is such an elusive concept. It seems like the more we seek it, the harder it is to find. Or maybe it's just that energy seems to disappear with youth. The older we get, the less energy we have on a regular basis. For the most part, we accept this as a basic part of life. That's just how it works, right? While it's true that kids are likely to have more natural energy than adults, we don't have to live with a constant lack of energy. If you're looking to keep your energy up and running, take a look at these tips that you need to start trying today.
Get More Rest
Stop making excuses. Stop prioritizing other things first. Stop staying up for TV or social media. The more quality rest that we get, the better it is for our long-term health. Rest isn't easy for everyone, but there are things we can do to make it easier. Set a bedtime, say no to extra obligations, make your environment comfortable, and ban technology from your bedroom. Once your rest gets under control, you may find that some of that lost energy comes back naturally.
Drink Less Caffeine
It sounds crazy, right? Even though caffeine is a stimulant that perks you up, it actually damages your energy in the long run. Your body gets used to it. It learns that it doesn't need to produce as much on its own. It's OK to have some caffeine in the morning -- and maybe once more throughout the day. But stick to water the rest of the time to improve both health and energy.
Stress is an absolute energy zapper. It sucks you dry. It gives you headaches and causes fatigue. It causes mental decline. While we can't eliminate all stress, there are definitely things we can do to get moving in the right direction. Start by saying no. No to more work (when possible), no to late hours, and no to new activities. End your procrastination habits. Lower your financial burden as much as possible. As the stress level comes down, your energy, health, and outlook on life will all go up.
Energy can certainly be elusive, but it doesn't have to be missing from your life. You can have more without too much thought or effort. Use these tips to keep your energy up and running so that you can enjoy life and all it has to offer starting as soon as today.
