Seeing Progress After Change

By Donna Stark

You stand on that scale, take a look down, and suddenly you feel it. That bad attitude creeping in. The bad attitude that comes from all of the frustration you have been holding down deep inside of yourself. It's frustrating because nothing has changed and it's not as if you haven't been putting in the effort. So what else is there to do? Well, other than keeping on at the same pace you are at, you may need to ramp up your efforts. It's your choice, of course, but it's a choice that comes with very different results.

Progress Needs Change

Whether it's losing weight, gaining strength, or improving your overall wellness, the time has come when you need to reevaluate the direction you are taking with all of your health and fitness goals. Avoid the consequences of no action or too little action by taking a look at the tips below. These tips will help you get the results you are looking for, no matter what they may be.

  • Prioritize - If you are training for a marathon, starting a new business, managing chronic health issues, and still taking care of your family, you may be spreading yourself too thin. It's easier to see progress when you can give complete focus on what you are trying to improve, so cut back on all the other stuff. Maybe that means instead of doing five things at once, you only focus on three. Or maybe that means you need to drop everything and give just one thing your attention.
  • Make a plan - You are here because you need to do something different, so start making a plan for action after you prioritize your goals. Sit down and ask yourself the hard questions. How many times a week do you work out? How often do you cook at home? How well do you manage your stress? Then go from there.
  • Find an accountability partner - It is easy to slip back into old habits when we try to do things on our own, so find a person you can trust who will be as committed to your health and fitness as you are! An accountability partner is someone who will check in with you and help monitor your progress. This person should be someone who is encouraging but also a little bit tough ... someone who will push you and won't accept any excuses. Who can fill that role for you?

Only the Beginning

This is only the beginning! Changes will happen and when they do, your frustration, disappointment, and poor attitudes will start to disappear. Of course, you may end up needing to modify your behaviors over and over again, but once you find what works best, nothing will be able to stop you!
